Default Reverse camera is foggy

I'm not sure what's up with the reverse camera in my truck. Sometimes it's clear some times it's absolutely terrible. Truck was perma plated at the dealership so I'm not sure if maybe they coated the camera. It's at it's worse at night time to the point it's almost useless. Should I buy a replacement camera and put it in? If so does anyone have the part number cause all I can find is 2020 and older. Or what should I used to try and clean it without messing it up?

There are multiple camera models depending upon the truck you have told us nothing about other than maybe it's newer than a 2020 model.

I bought my factory 2018 camera off Ebay minimum you will either have to use forescan or the dealership to turn on the guide lines and backup zoom mode.

Mine too. For me, I think it is because the tailgate is one of the dirtiest parts of the truck. Air must really swirl back there and even the lightest amount of road spray seems to stick to the camera lens. At night, I think the light from the license plate bounces off these contaminates and it looks terrible. I also just have an XL, so it is a really small screen with poor resolution anyway.

On my 2023 Lariat, the rear camera lens is the tiny "button" above the handle. And yes, in wet or dusty conditions the lens gets dirty and the image looks foggy, especially at night or backing into the sun. I try to remember to wipe it clean.

I do not know about later models but the 2018 vintage cameras leaked and got humidity/moisture behind the lens. It looked like a dog with cataracts. No amount of cleaning the outside of the lens helped.

Might be this one. I know on the 18 I have the camera model must be compatable with the white light in the latch handle to have the proper zoom mode which shows the hitch close up for using the trailer assist backup know. The camera model number should be on a FOMOCO
tag just like the one pictured on this Ebay auction. My FoMoCo tag part number went through about 3 revisions when I tried the number off my original camera.

Once you get the camera it might not look the same, that is because the camera snaps into a mount then the mount mounts to the tailgate handle assy.

Before you open it, give it a squirt of windex, wipe off, then point the nose of the truck toward the sun, put it in reverse and check the image.

Upon further inspection there is a bubble in the lens of the camera so I'm gonna have to replace it
