Default Reverse brake feature

A new experience for me today. My trashcan was still in the driveway as I was backing in. As usual, the rear sensors were beeping and I didn't slow down because I knew I wouldn't hit the trashcan. Suddenly the truck came to an abrupt stop and a red screen popped up on the dash display saying emergency reverse braking. I back in regularly with the sensors beeping I've never had the truck come to an automatic stop. Wish I knew more about how this works.

you can disable in settings. when I back into a spot, the grass on the curb would trigger reverse brake and I don't enjoy that.

If you are going slow enough the truck will let you keep going, but if you are coming in hot (about 5mph) it slams the brakes on. Grass, bush, wall, or pedestrian.

if you are in reverse backing out of a parking spot it beeps at you if there is a car coming in your blind spot.

Griz90 is correct. High speed reversing and it senses something, it will rocket the brakes on.

I learned the hard way when I flew out of my neighbors driveway in reverse, drove down the road three driveways, and swung the corner into my driveway. My other vehicle was parked in the driveway and she locked the brakes up on me.

I've also had it occur when backing into the garage and it senses the side of the garage door.

Thing is the driver may know or even see the object but the system has no way of knowing if the object is stationary or a small child or animal moving into the moving vehicles path.

Personal choice is to slow down and to have it function with the possibly to save a inattentive life.

We have newborn babies to teenagers along with some adults, then there are the cat's and dogs to deal with being the oldest of the 3 generations.

It is still your personal call on disabling it.

If you tap the P antenna looking icon in the upper right it will disable it for that time only. I do this every time I back into my garage so I don't have to listen to it. I don't want to permanently turn it off.

I back into my driveway everyday and never had it go off when I get near the garage door. I couldn't figure out why it went off on a trash can and not the door. It must be speed sensitive.

Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

Ive triggered it a couple of times. I like the margin of safety it provides.

what I wonder is if it biases for the tailgate up or down? (2 different distances to object)

I always laugh when I see a pickup with a tailgate crunched at the top edge where you just know they backed into a tree or pole with the tailgate down.
