Default Rear differential rusty

I know some rust is okay but this looks excessive. I bought this new 1week ago. I normally look underneath a vehicle before I buy but it started pouring rain and I plain just forgot. Do you think this is excessive rust and can you post pictures of your differential?

Lots of people have been posting problems with this. It seems to be a lot of the trucks coming from Dearborn. So far the best luck people have had is to reach out to Ford trucks on Twitter, then they can start some sort of process. Some people have reported the dealerships don’t care, while others their dealers have cleaned up the truck for them. I think it’s pretty ridiculous to have this problem on a $70,000 truck.

Yup, another Dearborn assembled truck. I tried to do a search but didn’t come up with any results. Must have used the wrong search terms.

It's been a "thing" that bugs plenty of owners for many years. It doesn't matter the manufacturer. They all get surface rust and that's it. Won't affect the performance or longevity. If it bugs you, crawl under the truck with some gloss or satin Rustoleum and have at it. Once it warms up, I'll do mine. No biggie....

I agree, a little surface rust is probably no big deal. But if you look at some of those pictures on the other forum, many of those axles are a bit ridiculous.

Yeah, I understand people being upset about this having spent the coin these trucks cost. But this really is not an issue, not even cosmetic because who looks under your truck. Plus even if it was perfect when you drove it off the lot, after a few weeks in humidity, not to mention rain, snow and or salt, it would get a coat of surface rust anyway.

And it isn't just F150s. This is an OEM wide thing with differentials.

My 2010 F150 I traded in had very little rust on the rear end. Had I seen this rust before the purchase I would have decline. I looked around at other manufacturers truck and didn’t see any rust issues.
