Default Question for Powerboost Owners

Sometime in the future, I will receive a Powerboost. I have many questions and don’t have access to the owners manual.
Because of the Hybrid battery, does this require special treatment different from a standard 3.5 F150?
For example, say in the case of moderate urban street flooding intersection that was deep enough you wouldn’t take a medium sized sedan across, but you wouldn’t think twice about going through it with your 2018 3.5 eco F150 supercrew. Would that be safe travels for a 2021 Powerboost knowing the potential water near the Hybrid battery?
Can it do everything a regular F150 could do w/o jeopardizing the electrical engine/battery part of the Powerboost?

Here you go.
You might as well download / bookmark these sites right now for future reference.

The days of setting back and paging thru the paper manual are gone for now.

Staying high & dry with the power boost.

Yup, we all have access to the manual. Ford owners manuals are online.

Read the online manual and you'll know more about it than 99% of owners

If you follow manufacturer's/owner's manual recommendations, you don't drive any vehicle through water deep enough that it would reach the battery, whether it has a battery or not, BTW

"Water If you must drive through high water, drive slowly. Traction or brake capability may be limited. When driving through water, determine the depth and avoid water higher than the bottom of the hubs. If the ignition system gets wet, your vehicle may stall. Once through water, test the brakes. Wet brakes do not stop your vehicle as effectively as dry brakes. Drying improves by applying light pressure to the brake pedal while moving slowly. Note: Driving through deep water may damage the transmission. If the front or rear axle is submerged in water, the axle lubricant and power transfer unit lubricant should be checked and changed if necessary

"WARNING: Do not attempt to cross a deep, fast flowing body of water. Failure to follow this instruction could result in the loss of control of your vehicle, personal injury or death."

As the water depth increases, you must reduce your vehicle speed to avoid potential vehicle damage. E310941 • Always determine the depth before attempting a water crossing. Never drive through water that is higher than the bottom of the wheel hubs. • Slowly proceed and avoid splashing water any more than is necessary. • Be aware that obstacles and debris may be beneath the water’s surface. • Keep the doors fully closed during the water crossing. • After driving through water and as soon as it is safe to do so check the brakes, horn, lights, and steering wheel to confirm those systems are functioning properly. Note: Engine damage can occur if water enters the air filter.

thanks. This seems like rules for driving through with any vehicle. I was trying to determine if because of the placement of the Hybrid battery, if driving through any water was a potential problem greater than the same truck w/o a Hybrid engine.

"When driving through water, determine the depth and avoid water higher than the bottom of the hubs."

Note the wording, then go look at the depth that the bottom of the hubs would be. Many times people exceed this.

"Water If you must drive through high water, drive slowly.."

Many people greatly exceed the speed that you should be driving in deep water. And waves from other vehicles crest the water higher. Issues with water entering breathing tubes on axles.

Take a look under a Powerboost and see where the batteries are and realize what it would take to get them wet.

Driving either an ICE, EV, or combination (Hybrid) through water that deep can potentially shut off power to the vehicle and possibly injure or kill you when the vehicle gets swept away by the water. That's the real thing to remember here.

Otherwise, hit up the ole internet search I guess

That video is a great example of George Carlin's famous quote -

“Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that.”

Think of the emergency that Tesla driver is going to. Oh right, it's no emergency, he just wanted to get through...

20 years ago where we lived the river flooded. The intersection was 2 feet deep in water. Easy to park in a higher parking lot, walk between 2 buildings, and come out on the other side of the water and be picked up by a neighbor or spouse, neighborhood was 1/4 mile away. Vehicle after vehicle drove through the water... Semi's made waves that caved in the doors and garage doors of the Shell station.

People are just stupid.

Yes, there are more videos than we want to admit on the Tube of people trying to drive through flood waters, and failing.

You can generally get away with deeper than the manufacturers recommend purely from a safety standpoint...so you do kind of have to be stupid to get in trouble...and a lot of people do so. Can't see the bottom, haven't walked it first to look, no big deal, just go for it! good luck lol

We had some serious downpours here the last few weeks and I've went through some deep stuff both fast and slow, haven't had any issues, short term at least.

A few years back our local river flooded. Down at the intersection was a pair of taillights barely out of the water. As water receded they got the vehicle out with the driver still buckled in. The flood waters had blown out the storm sewer and in he went.

Nope the power boost is staying high & dry.
