Default Powerboost without tow pkg?

I found a 2022 powerboost S crew 4x4 that doesnt have a tow pkg. Otherwise I like the truck a lot. Its shows class 4 trailer hitch on the sticker though. With a PB It has the 3.73 gears so what is it missing? 7 pin wiring, Brake controller, Trans cooler HD radiator etc? Could those things be added later for less then a mint?

Not sure whats physically different with the tow package other than without it the tow rating of the truck is 7700lbs instead of 11,000lbs. Also the carrying capacity rating will be lower by a couple hundred pounds.

The only thing conclusive anytime had found is the trucks without a tow package are only rated for 7,000lb trailers. On non-PB trucks, there are some minor other differences, but not the case with the Powerboost. Good luck getting anything official from Ford, and I wouldn't trust anything the dealership tells you either. There are several threads on this topic between this and other forums and no one has figured it out yet.

Okay thanks. Maybe thats why this truck is still on the lot. I plan on towing a TT at least 7k more like 8k gvwr with family so may have to pass on it.

Did you happen to get the Payload number on the doorframe sticker?

No I just saw the truck online. If it had the tow pkg I would've gone to see it for sure.

Gotchya

That may be a crippling factor with even a 7k# trailer when also carrying a family with their fun-gear in the truck.

I’m not positive, but towing may introduce the semi-floating 9.75 rear axle over the 8.8.

Max towing introduces the 3/4 floating 9.75, although there were some quality issues with at least 2021-2022 models.

Per the build guide all 4x4 Powerboost have 3.73:1 rear axle ratio which means 9.75" semi-floating axle as standard (all 4x2 PB have 3.55:1 with 8.8 standard). There's no other optional ratios for the PB 4x4 and 4x2.

Correct on the 3/4-float 9.75" when you add MAX trailer tow package to either 4x2 w/3:55 or 4x4 w/3.73.
