Default Powerboost in action

Hi there, 2 weeks ago we had a big ice storm in Chicagoland. Many trees broke down like matchsticks including 2 on my property. The power lines were down for 3 days but I had electricity in entire house, guess where it came from???? Truck used around 14 gallons of fuel during that period, not bad at all! What was funny I hired an electrician to install transfer switch literally 2 weeks before the storm! Powerboost is the new king in town!

Congratz. I'm up here in Spokane Valley, WA and we are expecting more snow tonight.
my Q is how do you secure the truck while it's running.
I imagine mine sitting in the driveway and running but what stops the truck from being stolen? Is there a Drive Lock Out in place or something?

Funny story. You remined me of a local story during a 2 week power outage caused by a straight line windstorm we had here in Ohio 10-15 years ago. Power was out, we we're in the middle of our muggy humid summers. This lady was lucky enough to purchase a new generator to at least keep some of the more essentials running. Air Conditioning was the most important of coarse. Her new generator was positioned outside her home but during the night she was awakened by the temperature in her house. It was getting HOT in there. She could still her the generator and just figured something had tripped. She gets out of bed, finds nothing wrong in the house and goes out in the dark to see if the breaker tripped on her new Generator. There, sitting in her yard was an old junk lawnmower just purring away. Someone had stolen her new generator and replaced it with an old lawnmower. Pretty smart crook ...

Open door, get out, close door, lock door by pushing 7/8 9/0 on keypad.

I have the 7.2 kw system aNd a selection of cords on the shelf but haven't gotten around to a transfer switch. Keep wanting to do it but we have a school, fire station and police station a block or two away so our section tends to come back up faster than others. Our longest outage in over a decade has been most of an evening. More frequently everything comes back on before I can get to the steps. At minimum it's nice to be able to keep my sump pump and maybe the fridge going along with TV and internet if an outage runs 24 hours or more but that has never happened here yet.

Probably it will, and I'll say &$!" These cords, i'm getting a transfer switch, and then we'll never have another outage before I sell.

How much does a transfer switch install cost? The only true answer is to obtain several quotes from licensed Electricians in your area. You must be specific as to the power source you are going to use and the circuits you are planning to power-up. Have all the literature handy for the provider to review.

We are in a electrical revolution, everything is changing at a lightning pace. Today, besides depending on the power company, many are installing solar and or wind systems along with storage backups. Here comes the electric vehicles with charging requirements, some are capable of providing battery and or generator back-up seamlessly. See where we are going with this, what you do today will change tomorrow. Let's add to this, most electrical power providers ar trying to take control of your thermostat and major appliances.

To the OP, congratulations on your PB and house interface.

Yeah curious about what transfer switch you have since you can't use just "any" transfer switch because of the ground fault consideration that is somewhat unique to the way the PB is set up compared to most off-the-shelf generators.

He charged me $900 for everything ( labor, transfer switch). He bought Generac’s kit #6853 if I remember correctly. It came with tc, wires , generator cable and outlet. Btw he did a very nice job mounting outlet outside. It was his first time doing TS for GFCI generator but I sent him links from our website so he was prepared and educated. Also the same time my brother was remodeling my bathroom and laundry room so the “wall” was open. My brother is giving him some jobs as hi is doing construction so it may affect the price I paid. It was very competitive in Chicagoland market imo.
