To order or not
i was wondering the same! Some dealership say they take a non-refundable deposit, to push for a commitment, other just take a deposit and will refund, and you are saying some don't even need deposit... Between the refundable and waiver ones, sure, why not placing many orders....if you have that energy lol.
Anyhow, i was stoked to hear my newly placed order, two days ago, is immediately scheduled for production on dec 13th! That's like totally pre-pandemic rate.

What I recommend doing when ordering is get a quote from one dealership by email. Ask a second dealership if they will beat that price. Keep going between a half dozen local dealerships until they give up. Then start going in person, and at the last one or two, walk in and offer to sign today if they beat the last dealership's offer. And if they don't, get up and leave to drive back to the last dealer. 9 times out of 10 they will stop you and give you the deal to sign.
That's how you get 7k plus off MSRP
Note: Always ask for the out the door price. This also assumes you're paying cash or using external financing.

You can go through all the frustrations of shopping dealer after dealer. But price is not everything. The total buying process is important--including how good the dealer's service department is. I don't like the national dealership chains or the way they treat customers (big doc fees and high pressure.) And I don't care how they have a revolving door of salesmen--many of which are foreigners in big cities. I prefer to deal with a sales force with little or no turnover and a local owned dealership not trying to rip your head off with big doc fees, GAP insurance, unwanted dealer installed options, etc.
But there again, I worked in the automotive business 24 years, and I still have friends in many brands of vehicles. In my retirement, I'm scaling back on vehicles--and I love my 2020 F150 STX 2.7 that only cost $32K new. I still have my older F250 Lariat Crew Cab for the dirty work.
When you're ordering a vehicle, you and the dealer really don't know what the exact price will be. Ford (and other manufacturers) often have price increases as the year goes on. And they constantly change the Sales Incentive (and Low APR) programs according to supplies of vehicles on the lots and where they are in month to month sales vs. the competition. One thing buyers don't realize is that toward the end of sales programs (usually the end of the quarter), the local region may have additional unadvertised and unpublished sales incentives--if the region's budget for that quarter has not been used. They don't like to NOT use sales incentive budgets.

To me I couldn't care less about the dealership quality, as long as they hold their part of the contract for the vehicle sale. I am very much one to do my own repairs unless I am unable to do certain things. I also don't do dealer financing. That said if I saw a bunch of reviews online suggesting they would NOT uphold the contract, then I would probably not buy from them.
I guess it also depends on how people value their time versus their money. The kind of person who buys a luxury 60k truck on credit is much less likely to be one to spend weeks trying to cut 5k off the price versus the person who buys the basic 30k truck in hard cash.

A quick update on my ordering status. I'm sure this is just a mistake/placeholder, but I clearly ordered a V8 XLT in silver, but my order tracker on Ford website shows "2022 LIGHTNING XLT in AGATE BLACK". The VIN is available now but nothing else has showed up, no window sticker yet. I think they give every body the lightning until it updates to the actual vehicle.
