Default Oil

Howdy folks. I have oil questions Im sure was already posted but i couldnt find soecifics about my model

ok so I have a 2021 F150 with the 5.0. It always had the valve tick, which Im stsrting to think was always due to the thin 5w20 oil they recommend.

I do oil chsnges religiously at 6000km(not 10k as recommended, oil was too shot for my liking) using Castrol Edge 5w20

I want to switch to a slightly heavier oil to see if that valve tick goes away.

I was thinking 5w40

Im in Canada and it gets very cold up here. So I still need a good flowing oil on super cold starts.

I dont pull nothing but 4wheelers, a small 14ft boat and a full box of camping gear.

what do you folks use?

i believe ford changed to 5/30 on the 5.0.. i had a 22 5.0 for a bit and i am all most sure they up the viscosity on the engine if i remember right.. as for the tick, my 18 5.0 had it good tick and i ran 5w40 in it and it did make a difference. but that's just me... other will more then like not suggest this..

thanks 👍🏻 ive heard many say this. Im just worried about oil not circlating to critical components because of the smaller/galleries.

Engines and cars are nightmares these days.

i understand the viscosity worries, but i believe the Roush Whipple units recommend 5/50 in there engines.

I have the same 2021 with a 5.0. I've always used Ford's Synthetic Blend 5W-30 as recommended by Ford. No tick. Like you I change the oil earlier than the gauge recommends. Just ticked over 100,000 trouble free miles.

In 2021 ford went to 5w30 in the 5.0. 5w20 is almost like water.
