Question Odd Acceleration Issue

This is in a 2024 F150 STX w/ 2.7l. While driving yesterday the accelerator became very unresponsive. Very slow to accelerate from a stop. And at highway speeds there was an odd vibration or pulsing in the accelerator pedal itself. I switched to "Sport" mode and the acceleration was as expected.. Then switched back to "normal" mode and after that things were fine. I had been driving in Eco mode a few days before but it was definitely not indicating Eco mode at the time. Driving the return journey and had no issues.

It remains to be seen if this will be an issue again but I'm curious whether anyone else has had this issue

Michael

When I first got my truck and ran 87 octane it would stutter going up hills at lower rpm’s and when I got into it had hesitation. Sport mode ran great so I switched to 93 and the truck runs so much better and gets slightly better fuel mileage. I get about an extra 75 miles out of my 36 gallon tank on 93 it’s not enough to fully offset the price but enough to where it’s worth the extra 10 bucks a week for the better performance. Turbos can run on cheap fuel but don’t like it. The difference was pretty noticeable after just a few miles on a fresh tank of 93. Not saying that’s your issue

Thanks for the reply. I'll try the higher octane. This is the first time I have had this issue but it's worth a shot. I had read that the turbos like higher octane...just after tanking up. I'll try it next tank.

Turbo's compress air and don't know or care what fuel you are burning.

While the turbo's are dumb and don't care what fuel you are running the ECU does care greatly. Lower octane will result in timing and boost changes that will lower performance. So low octane fuel will not let your turbo's be the best that they can be due to the ECU..

What he said…I didn’t really mean the turbos themselves 😂 There is a noticeable performance advantage running higher octane in these motors. You can run 87 and be fine but it will pull timing and reduce performance.

Can confirm, 3.5s in FL drastically pull back timing and on 87 especially in our hot weather in summer will feel kinda lethargic in every way including response especially city driving, same with our Coyote. Quite better on 93 stock especially Coyotes now and I'm tuned on 93 anyway so lol. Coyote is way more sensitive though due to high compression now and being n/a pushing a heavy Platinum brick, way happier on 93 and moreso especially tuned. ECUs can only do so much with 87 and timing advancement or pulling back.
