Default New XLT

Howdy folks, been lurking for a while but I finally made the decision to make the jump to a 2021 5.0 XLT 302A Sport. It had the right amount of features I needed and stuff that I didn't need, plus the interior is night and day compared to my old truck. I ended up trading a 2020 GMC AT4 6.2 (which I loved) but due to the used truck market being hot I had enough incentives to move back to Ford (I owned a 2006 4.6 Screw model for about 10 years that was bulletproof). Initially I wanted Space White or Leadfoot but the Agate Black looked killer and I got a decent deal on it. I do miss the power of the 6.2 but I've been told that the Coyote 5.0 spanks the GM (not gonna be drag racing at my age but still fun to know). I'm still babying the engine since it barely has 700 miles but I can't wait to really have fun with this truck later on.

Some mods I've done include--
Ceramic tint
Ceramic coating
Partial PPF

in the future I'd love to add a Borla Atak or S-Type exhaust and level the truck out with a nicer set of wheels and tires.

Love the truck and couldn’t be the more perfect color.I have a 2020 xlt black with the 5.0.I traded in my Silverado 5.3 on this one and really like the 5.0.I’ve put mine in sport mode a few times and that makes quite a different driving experience.Congrats on the new truck it’s really nice.

Excellent choice. I wouldn't rule out a muffler delete until you have heard it in person.

Can you give more feedback on the 6.2L GM vs this 5.0? I was cross shopping the Trail Boss with the XLT and Ram Rebel.

So after owning the 6.2 for a little a year I have a few thoughts in comparison to the Coyote 5.0
-the 6.2 definitely had more get up and go power (felt super sporty)
-the 5.0 has similar specs but the torque doesn't push back as much as the 6.2
-the 5.0 (in my limited experience) definitely picks up in the mid-range; it just won't lose speed and keeps going
-the 6.2 required premium fuel (I'm still doing premium on the Coyote) and was quite efficient for being such a large displacement engine; I'd average 18-19 MPG mixed driving
-the 5.0 is supposed outperform the 6.2 in a drag race but since I'm still breaking in the engine I've yet to hammer on it
-the 5.0 initially feels sluggish, HOWEVER, after putting it into sport mode the Coyote beast does wake up a good bit
-the 6.2 didn't really need sport mode and I seldom used it tbh; I see myself using it on the 5.0 more (not sure how I feel about this yet)
-the 6.2 did have the GM Performance exhaust (it's just a rebranded Borla Touring) and GM OEM Cold Air intake (questionable if it help with power gains)

In short the 6.2 felt quicker but I'm hoping that after a cat-back exhaust and a cold air intake the 5.0 will live up to its legendary status

Pardon the ignorance but what's the main difference between doing a muffler delete/swap and a whole cat-back system? Is there any pros/cons to it?

The muffler delete is simple. The stock muffler is cut out and replaced with pipe. The resonator, which is in between the muffler and catalytic convertor stays in place. Because the resonator is left in the system, it is not as loud as you might think. I saw a thread on here where I guy installed a cat back magna flow system ($800-1000), and was not satisfied because the truck still sounded super quiet.

Pros:
very cheap upgrade(I paid $75)
Engine sounds like a 400hp V8
Doesn't generate engine faults

Cons:
Some might not want it to sound like a 400hp V8.

Awesome truck! I also recently got rid of a 2020 Silverado and got a 2021 XLT and love it!

Your 6.2 had 420HP and 460TQ. As they say, there's no replacement for displacement.

I think your new truck is better in every way, but as far as power.. it just isn't.

But your old truck was rated at 15 city and 19 hwy and your new truck is 16 city and 22 hwy. So it should be a little cheaper to drive.

Your new truck probably still out tows your old truck too.
