Anyone with a 2.7 that gets bad MPG? I know about it getting better with some miles on it(break in). But, I just can not think it will get anywhere near what Ford has listed. My first tank full with 80 miles around town gave me 14 MPG and most of the tank was highway. Got up to 17. It is not my driving. Very easy on the gas. It just does not seem right to me.
The Lariat is a heavy pig but you should be getting better than 14.
My 2016 3.5 Lariat gets 14 in town and I'm one of the few who get lousy MPG.
Hope you get it figured out.
Start fresh with a trip reset and full tank. Could be a lot of idle time before you took delivery (unless it was not really used). Idle time sucks down that MPG on the trip meter.
After filling up, I can lose 1/4 mpg sitting at a traffic light. I usually come home from the gas station with ~8mpg on the display.

First step would be to hand calculate, to check LOM accuracy, and verify correct tire pressure.
Next, try different gas from different gas stations, and document the effect of higher octane gas.
Then, be patient, and try different driving styles and monitor results.
Could be a problem with the truck, or more likely several things combined of the nearly endless factors that go into FE.

Still hard to say though with only one tank and not knowing the history of the trip meter. I've picked up my truck from the dealership for service and I was down over 1/2 mpg when I picked it up to when I dropped it off.

Be aware that people have different definitions of what "in town" constitutes, people regularly report getting "in town" MPG that, in actual city driving, would be impossible.
You need to look over multiple fillups potentially due to the differences in shut-off point between pumps/fills.
Check your tire pressures. Limit highway/interstate speeds to <75 top. Right foot input and effect isn't just slowly accelerating, it's also letting off the gas and coasting for a time before hitting the brakes when coming up to an anticipated stop, not going from gas straight to brake. Don't buy cheap crappy gas, buy Top Tier even if it's just 87.
You have stock tires and all that?

I just had a new Camry rental which I think was rated at 28 or 29 city, I was averaging 22.6 city hand calc'd, just for perspective.

I've got 17k miles on my 2020 STX supercab 2wd with the 2.7. It typically gets 18-19 mpg "in town" and anywhere from 21-27 on the highway depending on traffic and speed limits. My first tankful from the dealership didn't give me great numbers either, and as others have mentioned, mileage will improve once broken in. My mileage drops significantly if I drive any more than 65 mph, and it actually gets worse mpg at those speeds than my last 3 trucks.
Bingo. I see in town/city driving numbers and than you see where they live and their "in town" is like 5 mile drives, 1 light at 35 mph, another 5 miles with 1 light and 40 mph lol. South FL City driving, our 3.5 10 speed was about 11-12 mpg, 5.0 12-14, few 2.7 friends pretty similar to 5.0 just a tad better like 13-14. Ain't nobody getting the 2.7 numbers I see posted on here in "normal" real city driving. Even in commercial fleets, none of them get what their rated at especially in city.

For the OP I run nothing but Chevron in my truck gas in my truck 87oct. If that turbo is being used the fuel gauge just drains.
