What I find dumb about this safety system is both types of shifter are electronic, no linkage, you are just triggering buttons behind-the-scene. A set of buttons you could push directly would be no different (and I would be fine if they moved to buttons or a **** on the dash). So they could eliminate the motor that moves the shifter and instead just put the truck in park and display a message on the screen that the truck is now in park due to the door being open. It would be one less failure point. And more logical.
