Default Making a Decision

So I'm looking to get rid of my 2020 ram 1500 w/ 5.7hemiVVT and go back to ford. Previously had a 2007 Lariat w/5.4L. Debating between XLT w/302A package or Lariat w/501 or 502. Like the look of the Lariat digital gauges but concerned if they have an issue, you can't tell how fast you're going. XLT 302A gives you the same 12" radio w/ 4 link. Considering add leather to the XLT also. Input on packages and 3.5 eco boost vs 5.0L.

Thanks

You can't tell how fast you're going?

See how clever he is disguising the "which motor" question in with the trickery of a gauge issue.
Trying to pull the wool over our eyes .....

Oh brother. I'm going to find some popcorn.

Yep, but not just the which motor. Also, which trim level. Open for suggestions and opinions.

If the lariat is all digital and no analog gauge. Leary of all digital anything.

Heck, if I'm spending your money, that's easy: Get the 502A 3.5.

Thank me later.

If you lose the instrument cluster, use the gps on your phone as a speedometer.

Personally, I would go for the Lariat 502a with the 5.0. I only say that because that is what I ordered.

All of the engines are great. Get the one that looks shinyest to you. If you tow, you can't go wrong with either.

You may need to provide more info, you said you were considering an XLT 302a, but were open to a 501a or 502a Lariat. The gap in cost and features between a 302a XLT and 502a Lariat is huge. Maybe if you gave us some idea of your priorities aside from the digital gauges. Those digital gauges are going to be the same as the digital gauges the last gen truck had, in terms of the basic engineering behind them, and I didn't see a mass of people complaining of the screen dying. The mechanical speedo you are more reliant on is digitally controlled as well and has a higher number of parts that could fail than an all digital one, so I personally believe thinking because it's a screen you need to be more concerned is unfounded. Mechanical speedometers die too, and when the underlying parts are still electric anyway, they aren't actually going to be more reliable in the end.

You need to break it down to what matters to you. You can get a Lariat 500a also if you just want 4 Auto and a few other Lariat touches without going full bore on tech. You would get power folding mirrors, I believe the power sliding rear window, many of what I consider to be the "missing" parts from the XLT 302a without going crazy on price. But you really need to tell us what about the Lariat even has it in consideration. Without that, my answer would be the same as someone earlier, it's not my money so a Lariat 502a, obviously (even with my money I ordered a Lariat 502a).

3.5L or 5.0L has the same problem, you told us nothing about what you wanted from the truck or why just those two engines. I would take the 2.7L before either of them. Generally lower up front cost, better fuel economy, the 2.7L in the last gen was slightly faster than either the 5.0 or 3.5L in 0-60, and even if that isn't the case after the power bump those two got, it will still be so close that the difference would come down to driver more often than engine. But if you plan to tow 5-8,000lbs frequently, I would get the 5.0 since its towing MPG beats all but the 3.0 Diesel. If you care about having the most power, then you would want the PowerBoost and the 3.5 and 5.0 wouldn't be a consideration.

I did the XLT 302A, FX4, max tow, with the 3.5. This is.my second 3.5. Just love the power when pulling, didn't really like looking at the tach on my 5.0 when pulling a hill. The 5.0 even had 3.73 gears. Gas mileage was about the same across the board.
