Default Diagnostic mode

Guys I have come across many mentions of putting your truck in diagnostic mode to see the battery charge on the dash. Please, how is this done on a 2023 f150 KR 5.0

It's called diagnostic mode, maintenance mode is for changing the rear brake pads. On earlier series Hold the OK button on the steering wheel while you turn the key to on or push the start button. Then use up/down buttons to scroll through the options.

Thanks I will try that....you know I had a nagging feeling it was the wrong term, just could not bring the right one to mind. Changed it in the original question.
Geeez I hate doing that. Thanks again.

I tried that method , it worked and I was able to access the info on the 23. I will say that the battery volts shown were much different than I have understood . Double checked the dash reading with my DVM at the battery terminals and it was almost the same. So good so far. Lots of other stuff there I have no idea about yet.......

The only two items I have used in the engineering mode, is engine block temp. and battery voltage. A lot of info there that means something to someone but not me. So the voltage on my 2018 usually sits just over 12V resting. You can put it into eng mode without engine starter crank to see the at rest voltage, then if you mash accellerator to the floor and hold, and crank starter you can see the voltage under the starter load, mine drop to about 10.9 during crank, then while cranking let off the pedal and engine starts, voltage goes to around 14.5 but as the engine runs and the battery recharges that run voltage will drop as the battery monitorying system decides it is charged enough. Not the BMS is only designed to take the battery to around 80 percent capacity to extend battery life and to squeak out a tiny bit more MPG as charging the battery burns fuel. If one wants the battery topped off to 100 percent an external charger like a NOCO Genius 10 will peak it out to full. I do this on extended Vacation when the truck sits for 2-3 weeks, if not then at the end of 2 weeks the battery saver will notify me and shut down features of the Ford Pass app. to save battery. My truck routinely site for 3 weeks unused, never has it failed to start, but Ford pass does shut down things some times.

Just thought to post an update.

I have been watching the battery volts as shown on the screen for the last couple of trips. As observed now, 15.2 vdc driving away after sitting for a day, then it works its way down to 14.7 as time goes by in the drive and I guess the internal battery resistance increases with the charge state increasing. Curiously it drops down as you brake and returns up to 14.7 ish as the engine rpm drops to idle.

The battery volt check directly from the battery terminals after return home and settling with engine off is 12.6 vdc. Before the drive it was 12.3. Seems as if it is charging fine considering what is has to run as we drive....seats, steps, steering wheel heater, fans all cycled to watch vdc. Auto start off. I am not suggesting anything here it is just what I have seen.

AGM H8 batteries up here are very expensive, well over 300 CAD, I will watch this further and have the dealership check the charging system during the oil change coming up so we will see. I do have some points though soooo.

Remember this is on a 23 KR 5.0 ice, built aug 31/23. Many electric accessories but sadly no massage seats....LOL.

Last update from todays drive just sat for 24hrs. Did not get resting vdc before start as I can only get the diagnostic up with the start enabled / engine running.
Idle in driveway 14.7 right away and it stayed at that number 14.6-14.7 for a good 20 minutes or so then while sitting idling having coffee it dropped to 12.7-12.8. If the engine was revved it went up to 13.2. Now 13.2 was usually the accepted float value. Anyway its stayed like that, at idle 12.6-12.7 and above idle up to 13.2. Home again, so if that helps anyone fine.
