Key cornfusion!
My truck has the push button start - I noticed a while back that neither of the keys that came with my OEM remotes are cut - they're just straight blades. I'm assuming the darn things are supposed to be cut?
I also have yet to find the Security Label referenced in the owner manual which has key cut information.
Of course, the manual is a "one size fits all", so I thought the Security Label may cover only flip keys, but now I'm thinking it should cover keys for trucks with push button start?
First thing tomorrow guess I'll try inserting one of the keys into the door, but I assume nothing will happen since it's not cut?

Nevermind - I see they apparently are cut, but I was expecting to see an old style cut key - nothing but a squiggly line on the blade.
When I first pulled the key when I got the truck, I thought the line was a lube or sumpin'!
Still unsure about the "missing" Security Label that's supposed to have key cut information.

Next question - assuming the squiggly iine in the blade is the cut, where can one get spare keys cut?
Guess I'll have to check with a locksmith Monday to see if they can cut this newfangled stuff!

Playdoh and a ladys compact do wonders for storing backup key cut shapes
Definitely something you can get from the parts counter at Ford but I'd like to think there are additional options, such as a lock smith.
I had a key cut/programmed for my 2003 by a locksmith, but it was the normal legacy/iconic Ford double cut key.
Post up what you find. I should get a dummy key cut. While I've only used the one that came with the truck no more times than the fingers on one had, it seems like a good idea to have a second on on-hand. I use it to access the the spare tire when I've needed to lower the spare tire while at home.
Yep, I had to go to a locksmith. They have to have some kind of newer special equipment. Not your regular key cutter. I had to pay $30 for just the cut. I bought the key blank off of Amazon for like $25.
Good questions. I haven't had a key cut with the squiggly blade before.

Found some key fobs at a good price but the trucks covered stops at 2020.
The picture of the sticker on the back of the fob matches the numbers on the back of mine, so I'm assuming it will work?
I'd prefer to go to a locksmith as I hate to see what a dealer would charge to cut a blank key.

EDIT: Just happened to be yakkin' with my neighbor & darn if he didn't call a buddy of his that can sidemill keys BUT he charges $35 each!
Think I'm going to shop around - I may not even get the spare keys cut - I already have the 2 originals, & by not cutting the new ones that gives you the option of selling the remotes somewhere down the road.

I'll post a follow up - I started researching this as I'm just about to buy 2 more remotes & keys, but it's tough since no one has updated their databases to cover 2021's.

You're planning to keep 4 active keys (the limit) so you don't have to deal with the more challenging programming in the event one of the keys is lost?
My ex wife and I purchased a mustang back in the day, new. I purchased a key and/or FOB as a 3rd so I could program it myself. I think the plan was to have one on hand and the sales person at the parts counted informed me it needed to be programmed and I could do it as long as I had 2. I never knew before that.
The goal, similar to yours, was to have the 2nd working FOB should one of us lost a key.
Turns out I did lose a key -well I lost it when her name was changed to EX. haha
He does take returns, so the first thing to do is try to program them to make sure they work with the 2021's (part # on the back is the same as he had in his pix for thru 2020).
Looks like I might be screwed locally AFA having the key cut - stopped by the local hardware store & no go - they said they didn't think "the" locksmith in town could do it either (he's closed today).
I'll check with them Monday - if that's a no go, guess I'll have to look up locksmiths in the closest big city to me & next time I'm there, have them cut the new blanks.
