Default Interior lighting intermitent

Guys,

I have had issues with this before where the interior lights do not come on when you open the door. 500 years ago a vehicle had a light switch and that was an easy diagnosis.........how they do it today who knows? It's a real nuisance at night and lucky me --the dealer will not be able to duplicate the problem.
Is it loose or is it wonky?

I guess I'm really asking how do the lights work if not via a door switch? If it is a fault, while it is not working will a scan tool see it?

Thanks for anything you can share.

Today (and any day I show it to the dealer) it's working just fine.

I found that I'd accidentally turned that off on mine. The switch is to the right of center in the overhead console. There's in indicator showing the condition.

I had the same problem for 3 years, while under warranty the Dealer reloaded software, the lights would work sometimes. About 2 months ago they went off and never would work when you opened the door. Took it back 3 weeks ago, 1 hr. in the shop said they had it fixed again.
NA, worked for about 1 min.
I bought the Forscan for Ford trucks, found I was having Code B14AA-Demand Lamp output. Circuit Short to Ground
Module- Body Control Module
After looking here and there, I took my Driver Sunvisor down, wiring look good, took the Passenger Visor down, BINGO, bare wires were pinched against the metal bracket that holds the Sunvisor. If your vanity mirror lights in the Sunvisor don't work I would check these wires, it's pretty simple.
I had to take the cloth tape off the pinched wires and use liquid tape and I split shrink wrap and used black take the best I could. There is no Slack to pull the wire down to fix right. The wires are glue to the top of the headliner.
So far, I have had lights now for 3 weeks!
I sent the pictures to the Ford Troll on this website, and
Ford was no help in this process at all. And to fix this right, the headliner has to come down and new wiring harness installed

So as an update I removed both sun visors to see if I could find any pinched wires----they weren't and were in great shape.

I have always known of the yellow "light off when door is open switch" so it isn't that. Probably have to take my chances with the dealer again.
As of today no interior lights from the outside when opening the door. When I start the truck then they light off.

I wish that I had a schematic of it.
