Default Highest level trims with 18" wheels

Good day everyone, first post. Have been looking to order an F150 and would appreciate some input. Been lurking here for more than 6 months, have worn out the online Ford configurator, and have gone through the 2022 order guide that posted in another thread. I plan to drive my truck offload (not super hard core--I have a built Rubicon for that) but I would greatly prefer 18" wheels that I would put 34's or 35's on versus starting with 20" wheels. I know I can take off/sell the 20'st and go aftermarket but that is an additional expense. My base build is a 4x4 Supercrew, hybrid, 7.2 PP onboard. Certain options are easy, in that they don't require certain "packages" to get them (trailer tow mirror are one example) but others, like headlights and stereos, do.

So I'd ideally like to get the top line B&O sound system, LED projector (not reflector) headlights, 18" wheels, and in an ideal world cloth seats (I'm pretty sure the seats aren't possible, and I think the 18" wheels can't be had in any configuration with the B&O unleashed sound system). But I'd appreciate input/thoughts on this and thanks in advance.

Lariat 502A is the only truck that fits your wants, except for the cloth seats.

Exactly, getting 18" wheels isn't hard, it is the default spec for the 502a, you have to pay more to get the 20".

My F-150 sounds like what you are looking for except leather seats. 502a, Projector Headlights, B&O Unleashed, etc. I added the 20" wheels, but again it was a line item I had to specify. My 2019 Lariat 502a had the 18" wheels.

The 302a XLT will have your cloth seats, but no Projector headlights and B&O Unleashed. The B&O Unleashed isn't worth the jump to 502a Lariat, almost half the speakers barely make sound (headrest and overhead) in most situations. But the projector headlights are such an improvement over the reflector LEDs in the XLT through Lariat 501a, if I had to choose cloth seats or headlights I would want the headlights.

But that is down to your preference, you are correct I don't think you can get everything you are asking for without modification.

Thanks for the responses. I don't really want the chrome appearance package (included in 502a) but the black package requires black paint, and I don't want a black vehicle. So given cloth seats are out, my decision may hinge on going with KR or above and just selling the 20" wheels to avoid the chrome package, or live with the chrome package.

I think there may be some confusion. There is a black package, but it isn't a choice between Chrome or Black package. You can get Sport Appearance and have painted bumpers and all that and virtually no chrome. You 100000% do not have to get a black truck to avoid chrome. Below is my very much not black and not chrome Lariat 502a.

The black package is new for 2022 and... I know I am going to hate it when everyone and their brother orders it like the blacked out RAMs, but it should just be an extra option on top of Sport Appearance. You want to look for Sport Appearance package on the 502a. Again, mine has 20" wheels in the picture, but that is an option. The stock 18" wheels are great and what you see on XLT or Lariat or whatever with Sport Appearance.

If you want the high end headlights, you have to go lariat, which in turn means you can’t get cloth seats.

If you don’t want chrome, your only option is the sport appearance package with the PTM bumpers. You can get the black/silver 18” sport rims with that configuration. If not, they’ll force the chrome package with fugly 20” rims on you.

It’s sort of BS that Ford doesn’t let you get all the high end stuff on a lariat without getting the chrome appearance package or sport package, but whatever

Personally, I would buy the car that fits your needs minus the wheels, and then just look for a set of OEM take-offs used while you wait.

In the few months it will take to order, I almost guarantee a set of OEM take-off wheels will show up for sale on this forum or various other forums/Craigslist/etc. Just take a look at how many threads there are of people adding a small lift and unique aftermarket rims.

In some cases I think you can even fit a 17” rim on the 2021 (not 100% sure on this), and the 17” is even better for 35s than an 18” rim. Not exactly the gold standard of 15” rims for 35s but it’s still an improvement.

I ordered a totally loaded Lariat with appearance package powerboost 4x4 with every possible option except engine block heater, hard tonneau, max tow, power running boards, or ramps. For the $73k msrp I could have had a KR, Limited, or Platinum with most of the same options. But I wanted the Lariat interior and minimal chrome so I am happy. Mine is black, but as explained, several colors available with appearance package. Mine would have had 18" wheels if I hadn't ordered the $1395 dark 20" optional wheels. I like the look of the extended length fixed running boards and I think they help avoid parking lot door dings.

I went down the same path you are on my 18 SCAB and was in error.
Something to consider: Ordering the truck with the biggest and tallest wheel/tire combo will allow converting to bigger aftermarket tires and smaller wheels with less spedo error. It can also give a higher tow rating.

I suggest specing it how you want for everything but the wheels, then upgrade to whatever wheel/tire available that is the tallest within you other choices. Then buy the aftermarket wheel tire combo you like later.
