Default Fuel funnel?

I keep a can of gas for the generator and rotate it through the cars to keep it fresh. I discovered the funnel for using a gas can in the new 2021 has a flow restrictor in it unlike the one in the 2012. Is there a good reason for this? It means I can easily overflow the fill and get gas all over everything. I tried a search and didn't see this addressed, so apologies if I missed it and am making a rehash.

Probably the design of the capless fuel filler. Did they have those in 2012?

My 2010 had one and it didn't have a restrictor in it. My 2016 does not have a restrictor in. So, I am not sure when they added them.

Can you provide a picture so that we can see it?

Noticed the same thing on mine. Tried it out with the restrictor adding fuel from a 5 gallon can, yes it restricts the fuel and generally makes a mess for no good reason. Pair of long needle nose pliers fixed the stupid restrictor permanently. Now it looks and works the same as the Ford funnel from each of my other Ford products. If someone comes up with a good reason for the change I'll listen, then I'll gladly help anyone fix theirs. Got my pliers handy.

Yeah, I'd be interested in hearing the reasoning behind that myself. Without seeing it in person, the only thing I can think of to act as a filter to catch anything big that maybe in a can. That is the only thing I could think of.

Owners Manual have any instruction on how to operate the funnel?
Might be easier than trying to upload a picture.

He's not asking how to use it, he is asking about the "restrictor" that is in it.

The restrictor is a round piece of plastic about half way down the funnel held by three thin plastic attachment points. A quick twist with the needle nose pliers snapped it right out without damage to the funnel. Otherwise it looks exactly like the other funnels from my 2014 F150, 2017 Mustang, and 2019 Flex. I could see it stop someone from dropping something small enough to fit down the funnel into the tank but the tank has a strainer sock on the end of the pump so nothing that small is going to stop your fuel flow unless you really put a bunch of crap in there. As I stated, the restrictor really did get in the way of the flow of fuel from a 5 gallon can to the point where it became a hazard of its own from fuel backing up and over the side of the funnel. You just can't manage the flow from a large can that fine while balancing 30 plus pounds of weight at an angle. My opinion, it is not a well considered change and was technically the first modification I made to my truck.
