Default First Oil Change

Just took ownership of a new 2025 Lariat, 3.5EB, FX4. Old truck was a 2010 5.4, so I'm new to the EB. I want to do the first oil change around 1500 miles. Is there anything special I need to know before going into it? I.e. special drain plugs, removal of parts for access, any special tools needed, etc?

Default Do it soon

You’re onto a religious subject.

If you believe engine builders, oil engineers, General Motors, Toyota,…change it soon! I did mine at 500 miles. You have to get the garbage out of it.
Search around here for long threads on it.
Just do it, it’s relatively cheap compared to the downside.

To facilitate easier oil changes, pick up a Fumoto drain valve. I installed one on my truck and makes for quick, clean changes....

I came from the 5.0 to the 3.5 eco...not a whole lot of difference in the procedure. Stupid oil filter drain tray comes out both sides just like the 5.0 lol. I just stuff some rags down between the filter and the plastic tray to catch as much as possible. I would watch a couple you tube videos to get an idea of the process.

8 MM socket for felt cover, 15 MM socket for drain plug, 14 flute 74/75 MM socket for filter.

Thank you for the responses. I've done my own oil changes in all my vehicles and just wanted to make sure there was nothing bizarre. Yeah, the oil drain tray that opens to both sides was a nuisance on my 2010 also.

Can you point out where either GM or Toyota calls for a 500 mile oil change?

I'm old enough that my 2025 is probably the last vehicle I'll own (I keep them a 15+ years*) and we have big plans for it when we retire. So the oil was changed at 500, 1500, 5000, 10,000, etc. It has 18,000 on it now and had five changes. Cheap life extension, IMHO.

* We had a 2000 Expedition for 17 years with 281,000 on it, and a 2000 Explorer for 25 years with 376,000. Normally aspirated engines with oil changes at 7500 mile intervals. Both running well when we sold them for a fair price to the buyers.
