...and it gets a lot colder than 20 around here.
So maybe these people below live where you don't freeze your nuts off in the winter? I would not buy a BEV, or for that matter, a convertible, if I lived in those miserable, bone-chilling conditions.

What other vehicle has Ford ever put out that had 100,000 reservations in 3 weeks?

And wait until people get to actually test drive them. As I've said many times, the marketplace will decide whether the Lightning is for them, or not.

Demand soars for Ford's all-electric F-150 Lightning: 100,000 orders placed
Phoebe Wall Howard
Detroit Free Press

Ford Motor Co. hit another milestone with its all-electric 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning.

The company has confirmed reaching 100,000 reservations since its global debut three weeks ago at world headquarters in Dearborn.

"We're super excited about the demand," Emma Bergg, Ford spokeswoman, told the Free Press on Thursday. "Reservations are getting added all the time."
The official order bank opens later this year, she said.

I don't care what the preorders are or if you can't tolerate cold weather. I'm just helping to point out to somebody who asked that yes, cold weather is an issue for EVs. Now, normally I wouldn't care what you think and I have nothing against the Lightning itself, it's a pretty cool truck and if it works for you, great. But when we are mandated into EVs with the rest of the country, it becomes a pretty big problem. Just last month the court affirmed my state's right to do that and EV advocates are pushing hard. Thankfully, for now, we have a state senate standing in the way. Barely.

Ford has done cold weather testing, so they know exactly what the range reduction will be, at various temps. Whether we ever get that info, unlikely. I don't know that they've ever released it on the past PHEV/EV models. I would like to see the EPA revise their requirements for EV's to include range at various temps, because it is important to know when shopping.

Regardless, we''ll have to rely on the early adopters to relay real-world data once these trucks start hitting the market. With a spring on-sale date, it will be a while before we get any good cold weather data.

Probably a wise move to release a new EV in the spring vs fall!

Well my winters can get to -40 at times.
My vehicles are all inside garage when not in use.

We've gotten close to that a couple times here in Ohio in my 50+ years here.....maybe -20'something the coldest I remember. That's just stupid-cold!

I bet range is maybe 20-30% at those temps? Quite the paradox, as an EV, in theory, makes the most sense for a cold environment, but is least efficient there.

I put a reservation in at 10:01pm the night of the premiere.

Since then the wife and I have started shopping for a TT. The big question I think for everyone - especially in the towing regard - is range.
There has been a a development in the "EPA estimated 300mi. range" - Supposedly that was calculated with 1000lbs in the bed. That has shown up in one news article and on a YouTube video from a guy called Marques Brownlee.
According to what he saw, the range could be upwards of 459 miles with extended range. His truck had 80% charge and showed a range of 367 miles. If true, and if the assumption is true that you lose, lets say 50% of range from towing, that's still 230 miles; In the hills of the Adirondacks lets say 200 conservatively. That gets me to pretty much all of our normal destinations and I could charge at the campground once I arrive.

Only one way to find out! Anxiously awaiting more info along with everyone else.

Don't get too excited, that is a preproduction truck and the range estimate was almost certainly based on putzing around at low speed. If it could do 460 miles Ford would be heavily touting that fact. I'm even a bit leery of the 1000 pound payload range claim. Seems that is what some engineer told a couple people but I have not seen any official statement. It would strike me as very odd for Ford to underestimate range that much out of some sense of ethics they have never displayed in the past.

I also plan to tow a trailer. Realistically, 150 miles of range while towing is to be expected. It won’t be a great cross-country machine, except perhaps for the novelty. But great for local camping. I won’t need to worry about finding electrical sites nearby for the weekend when I can quietly power the trailer from the truck.
