I know nothing about public EV charging stations. Are they in fact free or do you have to pay a fee to use them? If you do that's not free energy. To answer the OP's question, I might possibly consider a hybid F150 but not one that relies totally on battery power. For now I'll just put up with the quirks of a diesel to get better mileage.

 

100% against any electric vehicle. Trying to solve a problem that doesn't exist.

 

It isn't free, there is the manufacturing and install cost that someone is paying. You might think it's free because you aren't paying directly out of your pocket.

 

If anyone watches MotorWeek last year they took three electric cars and went on a road trip across the great plains of Maryland. Yes Maryland.
Starting on one side and driving to the other. 12 hrs. They looked for places to charge. They stopped at camp grounds booking a site with electric. Charge three hours while reading books or napping. Then hit the road again. I'm sure someone can find that episode and post it here.
It was very stupid to say the least but showed real life how searching for a plug and waiting stinks. Life is short. Fill the tank and drive.

 

A couple of things need to happen before EV's really catch on:
1. The entire electrical grid needs to be updated.
2. Charging stations need to be just as available as gas stations..

all the range and battery recharge times aside... towing with an electric motor would be pretty dang nice.

 

I like to think that back when cars started coming out there were old timers complaining about the lack of gas stations. They were like "no thanks, I'll stick with my horse." I would like a EV F150. First thing is states need to stop burning coal for electricity.

I'm not sure why there hasn't been a huge push to make E100 engines. Ethanol emissions is way less than gas. Yeah you'll use a lot more but still it's better for the environment. I'm a little biases though, I'm a corn farmer. We have a **** tone of corn to use.

 

If everyone had the frame of mind as most do on this subject in this thread...we would all still be riding horses.

Buying a Tesla, yes using the super charge facilities is free.

 

Not anymore! Only on older models. Now you have to pay, I recall its very reasonable though

Other than road trips, I'd never see myself using it. I'd just charge at home. I bet people who live in apartments or rent would make more use of them though

Really Stupid considering there are a number of sites including the Tesla site that provides all the information a person needs to plan their trip and posts all the charging station locations.

Anyone can make anything look stupid if they want to with little or no effort.
This thread is living proof of that.
