Oh, and this thread is great. I knew it would be entertaining but it really lived up to the hype. So much misinformation and armchair QBing!

My favorite is the "Well, EVs don't solve ALL the problems so they are useless!" Excellent stuff.

And, really, how can you knock the frunk? A massive, secure, weatherproof storage area is somehow not a selling point? That's been the most baffling gripe, to me.

Anyway, I look forward to jumping in on the EV F150 convo here, it will certainly continue to be entertaining.

ETA: When does the Lightning get its own forum?

and look,
I am / could be the guy this is right for,
my commute is 4 miles each way,
and a cord from my garage is doable,
but,
truck, man,
sometimes I drive 500 miles to get to fishing,
and my cord doesn't reach there,

Don't worry, every solar roadway system they have tested has failed miserably. The frequency at which they must be repair them alone makes then untenable. It's honestly a pipe dream that didn't take into consideration the stupidity of placing electronics within a high load and vibration surface, and needing that surface to be light transmissible. I think the end game of this will be the realization that it's only tenable to place induction cables in the road surface. Solar roads has been more of a setback than anything to achieving on-road charging.

For me the frunk is the main reason to buy it. I dont really care about the electric part but I have enough tools for a cargo van but defintily dont want a cargo van. I do city for so I cant be buying a crew cab with 8 foot bed. I do property maintenance so need to be a jack of all trades and keep lots of different tools on the truck. The front means i can keep a much bigger set of supplies and tools on board

I would love the practicality of a frunk. But I wonder what would happen in a crash. I would think that depending on what you are carrying up there, particularly tool boxes, it could significantly alter the crash dynamics of the truck resulting in it not crumpling or maintaining crush space in the way it was designed to. Don't know if I'd ever want to carry anything but soft luggage up there.

I've wondered this for awhile, but I've never seen anybody mention it.

In just the same way a trunk 'alters' that kind of stuff.

That's a risk too, but high impact rear end crashes are not as common and rear ends aren't built to the same standards to begin with because they aren't tested like front collisions are.

That said, I do know Honda made a big deal out of how strong the bulkhead between the cab and bed is on the Ridgeline to keep stuff from punching through it in an accident. I'm not as confident in the ability of my aluminum truck to do that, but it's better than our minivan. Headache racks exist because a lot of people are concerned about crashes when carrying cargo.

I don't know if it's a big deal or not, but given how much attention people pay to crash test scores these days I just think it's odd that nobody seems to mention it.

Remember, it's not the material, but the construction - everything is crash tested like crazy these days and i'm pretty certain Ford would be making sure a '22 MY vehicle does not have crap crash safety tests.

Right, but they aren't going to test it with 400 pounds of tools in the Frunk.
