Driving with the tailgate open
Occasionally I need to drive with the tailgate open. Eight foot sheets of plywood in my 6 1/2 ft. bed, for example.
When backing up the sensors or the camera must be looking down at the ground, so they think I'm about to back into something.
Can I easily shut this off?

When in reverse, there are two buttons at the top of the camera screen; reverse sensors and auto-brake should the truck think you are backing into something. Both should be engaged by default, but I believe can be permanently toggled off in your settings. That said, when in reverse, these buttons can be toggled to turn off that particular setting for that specific drive cycle.
I have a 5.5 foot bed. I haul 8 foot sheetrock/ plywood/ lumber. I leave the gate up and slide the material down into the bed at an angle. When I haul 10 foot lumber I strap it down tot the trailer hitch, and back into the bed cleats. If I am gong to run on the highway/ interstate I strap the 8 foot material also.
The camera in the tailgate handle is looking down when the gate is down and causing the alarm. You can turn it off.

My brakes keep applying when trying to turn around on a dirt road or trail and I have to back into 2-3 foot tall grass. So irritating but I didn't like the idea of turning it off in the menu permanently.
I recently drove 300 miles with the tailgate down. Had some 8 foot cargo and strapped it down to the tailgate since I wanted to keep my tonneau cover closed.
I had to back into a few parking spots etc.. and never had the alarm go off.
I think the bumper sensors are the only thing in play for the alarm.
This is where the 360 degree camera was nice as I still had a decent picture to view on 1/2 the screen while backing up.
