Woohoo my new F150 Platinum arrived today. I ordered it in early January, the official order date in the Ford system was January 29th. The truck is gorgeous, and the electronics are so much better than the 2011 Mercedes GL350 it is replacing as my primary tow vehicle. We really like the Kodiak Brown color - In low light the truck looks black, but in bright light it's very clearly chocolatey brown, and the paint has an amazing number of metallic particles in it.
We did have some delivery quality problems. There is a pretty big scratch on the edge of the driver's side passenger door and the leather on the driver's side passenger seat is badly wrinkled. Also the moon roof shade makes a loud grinding noise while retracting. I will take the truck back to the dealer in a couple of weeks when they get the parts in to fix all of this.
I'm also noting software quality issues as I spend some time in the truck. For example, Android auto doesn't automatically launch most of the time. The self-driving features seem very promising, but they seem overly naggy about you keeping your hands very firmly on the wheel.
I'm also hearing a low level grinding noise from the rear of the truck when on electric only driving, and only in forward gear. It's still hard to characterize this as it's not always present. It's funky because the truck actually gets quieter when the engine comes on and RPMs increase. I'm not yet sure if this is expected behavior or if it's a problem, time will probably tell.
I ended up getting a great price, almost $1,500 under invoice, via the Costco buying program. Feeling very lucky I bought the truck and negotiated pricing when I did.
I bought an mx4 bed cover which is supposed to arrive next week, and I expect my first modification will be figuring out how to add a new power outlet at the rear of the truck so I can plug in my Airstream while towing.
The pumpkin is just surface rust, it'll never actually cause an issue. It's a piece of iron and that's such a weird "thing" to have become a fad. Your dealer is right, Ford has full stop put their foot down on that one. They will not do anything about it because there is nothing to do about it.
Love your truck though, looks great! I have a few little nags with mine but I'm waiting. I have a long warranty period, I'm waiting to see if some are just quirks and some are actual issues. My initial reaction was similar but after 1100 miles I've cooled down.
The swirls in the clear were done by the wash boys at the dealership using the same mit / brush that was dropped on the floor 18 times before they washed your truck. That is also why I make it explicitly clear when I buy a new vehicle, if they touch it, I'm not taking it.
That IS a beautiful color! Sorry to hear about the quality issues, but those seem all-too common these days, regardless of manufacturer. There are a number of 'rust converter' sprays that you can use to turn the axle/differential a nice black...I get it that you shouldn't have to do this but it's a quick and easy fix.
I'd imagine you're in the $75K - $$85K range on the sticker on that truck, and yes, for that kind of money a luxury sedan from Lexus, Audi, Mercedes, etc would be FAR higher quality. Figure in that Ford made probably $40K in profit off that one truck alone and it makes you feel Ford put gravel in the Vaseline as they put it to you, lol!
Some wrinkles in leather don't bother me. I think it gives the seat "character". I had the normal surface rust on the rear axle. In the past, I'd hit it with some black Rustoleum. This time I tried Fluid Film. Easier, no over spray and factory markings and stickers stay visible. The shade I'd definitely get checked out.
This is the rearend a week after spraying with Fluid Film.
The 21 XLT I had as a loaner (only had 11 miles on it when it was given to me) it looked like the rear end was painted and not bare metal. Unfortunately, I'm back in my own truck so I can't take a picture of it.
Nice looking truck.
Looking forward to some shots in the daylight, properly exposed and level! When you find your favorite location, tap your phone screen over the vehicle so it exposes the light for that area.
The only real issue I see with 'quality' is the potential shade noise.
The rest of the stuff could have happened well after production.
