Does the headlight dial of 'off'. In previous years you had to turn the dial to AUTO for auto lights to work as long as the dash setting asks for it.
However, if the literal headlight dial is turned to OFF, it's like a vehicle of the 70's and you can drive without lights all night long.

Lets not confuse this with any sort of perimeter lighting that comes on, but headlights should not be part of the perimeter lighting so I think you are talking exclusively about staring the vehicle.
Also, by your comments, Ford has changed the entire behavior because the headlights, when enabled to auto, would only light up when in drive, I think? That is the DRL system, auto lights may in fact come on even in part, I guess. Maybe Ford is now dumb like the rest of the auto makers who think headlights should be on automatically when the vehicle is not in motion.
The dial turns infinitely so regardless where you set it reverts back… where before I could physically leave lights off in the off detent.

There is still a detent, but it doesn't matter, it will revert back...I know the computer can be set to "Policedarkcar" (or something like that) and also to "Last setting for the headlight switch"..But I do not have access, I was hoping for a work around...

Isn't technology great.🤪. Leave it to humans to program a computer to tell us what we think we want instead of us what we actually want.🤯

Yea, now I have to go to dealership and beg them to disable something I didn't even want on a 82,000 truck..! (of course I didn't know I didn't want it until the need had arisen !!)

Using Forscan you can change the default at startup from "Auto" to "Last Setting"

Not aware of any other options. Dark mode etc. seem to just keep perimeter and interior lights off upon door unlock and open.

Thanks for the clarification guys.

Similar to the vehicle shifting itself to Park, it also controls the headlights. Very interesting. And unnecessary.
I turned off the DRL in the previous GM pretty much every. single. day for 8 years. I would need to reestablish that habit if I had a 2021 F150. Or probably one of many other vehicles on the road today.

I have the opposite problem, would prefer to have the DRL default to "on" for the taillights too. Drives me crazy to see others driving in rain or fog without their tail lights on.
