Default Dealer undercoating

Should I have my truck oil sprayed if it has the black undercoating done at dealer?

Stay away from normal undercoating. It eventually does more harm than good. Once it cracks it will then allow moisture to wick under it and then stay in place longer. So essentially you are just encapsulating the rust.

It will look great in the short term and much worse in the long term.

Im doing LineX undercoating. Had it done on our subaru and dealer has never said anything about it as much as i keep it serviced.
$275 for undercoating $425 with anti rust proofing quoted for truck.

Had ziebart on my 2013 and it preserved it well. Im Ohio where everything rusts from heavy salting. My new 90s Ranger underbody and bed sides were already rusting through at the 4 year mark. I chalk that up partially to bad metal and coatings back then. My 04 Tacoma (the bad frame years) was shocking to see before i got my 2013 f150.

Neither....Treat it with Fluid Film or Woolwax. Be sure to do a good job inside the frame. Spraying Linex or rubber undercoating on the outside of a frame does nothing to stop the rust that destroys frames. Frame failure comes from the inside out.

Absolutely this. One of the previous owners treated my TJ. It really worked well. But holy heck is it hell to work on.

Any time I have to crawl under to make an adjustment, install an upgrade, or reach a hand in somewhere, I get this nasty black goop all over me, my tools, my clothes, everything. And I have not yet found an effective way to remove this stuff. Acetone or Goof Off and a lot of elbow grease can maybe clean up a tiny spot. But beyond that it's futile.

I do nothing to the undersides of my vehicles as far as coatings, either dealer applied or aftermarket, and so far so good after all these years. Here's my secret (and I live in Canada, which can rot out a vehicle fairly fast): Temperature permitting, spend as much time hosing off the underbody as you would washing the exterior. Climb under there and spray all the chemicals, salt, and dirt off in the Spring from all those nooks and crannies.

Think of the frame like a lawnmower deck: Nobody likes to do it, but you've gotta clean it properly every now and then or it will rust also.

I have no hope of getting my truck before ****ty weather/snow; does it make sense to do rustproofing of the frame in the winter? Perhaps wait for the spring, wash it well and then do it?

P.S. Fellow Canadians - any shop in GTA that you would suggest for rustproofing?
