BTW, for anyone who has a FitcamX or knockoff, one of the best things you can do is take an old phone and use it for the monitor ... if you're missing that bed cam, you can use the rear cam and a dedicated phone monitor like this to get something similar.
Here's a gif of rear camera view, which you can have on while driving unlike built-in rear facing cameras, and a still photo of rear with tonneau open. Can monitor loads while driving if you need to.
Today is prep for dash cam installation. I will read through the dash cam literature some time today. I started this morning before the garage becomes an oven, to look at the mirror and related panel at the top edge of the windshield after looking at "markwang's " posted picture.
For those that have installed dash cam's, is the below illustrated back of the mirror port hole for a USB/C connector to power a dash cam or radar detector? Using my really bring flash light I can see a connector through the grate of the front side of the mirror panel, maybe there is an access to power option there? There is a strange recessed C clamp type faster that appear to be what holds the mirror panel cover on, is there a special tool for this? I can image using a dental like pick tool I have to remove this, but it flying off to some never determined location while removing it.
From LennyFL reported incident and moritzes rear facing dash cam video I am considering returning my dash cam for one that has this rear facing capability. Is the rear facing camera on the same unit as the forward unit or is it separate, if so where is it mounted? My concern is that I am planning on adding to the back 3 windows tint that will make it darker (like 20 level darkness) and a legal front side window tint (15 level) across the top of the windshield. It is the month here where multiple 100 degree days happen, also why my truck is painted silver !

Rear camera on FitcamX or knockoff is not on the camera, instead is attached to a long wire that you plug into camera harness and then route to the back. Important: if you do get one of these cameras, you have to buy the rear camera in a package with the front. You can't add the rear later. Not sure why that is, but it is.
Unfortunately I can't help you with the tint. Amazon has a 30 day return policy, though ...

Did you have a wire coming down from the roof above the mirror, like the below? (I'm guessing not?)
If not, I think you don't have easy power up there. Maybe someone will come along and confirm for sure, but you might have to use a different power source.

Ah, I see that your trim is XLT. I don't think that would have an auto-dimming mirror unless someone added one. So the FitcamX or a Dongar adapter (for different cameras to get power from auto-dimming mirror) is not going to work. Going to have to tap the dome light, or the fuse box, or run a cable from your cigarette lighter (easiest).
Both of my trucks are XLT trim. (2017 and 2021) both have auto-dimming rear view mirrors from the factory. Dongle adapters work fine for me with my current cameras.
YMMV

My bad, the poster I was replying to, @23 F-150 XL, has a '23 STX, not XLT. I don't see the auto dimming power in his picture.
moritzes - Okay I was afraid of that, I have the STX trim, 2nd lowest trim out of 8 trim levels, which doesn't have the auto-dimming mirror. Thanks that answers that it isn't for a USB/C line connector I was hoping it had. Yes running a cable from the cigarette lighter to the dash mounted cam is likely what I will have to do. So the where does you back camera mount to that the cable runs back to, somewhere inside the back windshield? Thanks for your inputs.

If you have a sliding back window, you have to put it to the right of the window, I did it as close to the center as I could, as high as I could. If you have a one-piece window, just put it at the top center.

I have the single window, how does this back camera mount, to what? I am thinking I could have the additional darker tint installed such that it isn't in front of the camera once it's mounting location is determined.
