Unhappy Dancing Passenger Side Mirror

Anyone else have a problem with their power mirrors? My passenger side mirror likes to do an annoying little dance when I unlock the truck. The power mirrors open out and the glass in that mirror pivots down then when it hits the limit of downward travel starts popping over and over about 15 times then stops in the downward position. I have to then use the control buttons to adjust the mirror up to where I can see something beside the pavement again. Doesn't happen every time, and especially not when it is at the dealer service department. I've reset the programming a number of times and it still likes to perform this little trick on random occasions. I suspect it is a fault with the vertical position sensor in the mirror and I have an appointment with the dealer to let them look at it again (2nd time) next week. This time I cleverly snuck up on it with my camera and got the whole thing on video to show the service tech when I visit. Just wondering if anyone has seen this problem of if I just won the bad-mirror lottery?

I'd be interested to hear what the deal is also. My 2016 Lariat has been doing this off and on for years. Driver's side though...

Do you have settings programmed into all 3 memory selections? If not, make sure something is saved to all 3. Especially if you don't have your fobs linked to a memory setting.

Thanks for the suggestions. All of the memory settings have been set and the key fobs are programmed to the 1 and 2 positions. I have reset the programming many times and it does not seem to have any effect on the mirror doing its thing at random intervals. Will see what they say next week after a visit to service.

Sorry that didn't help you. I don't have the problem on my '21, but I had the dancing mirror on my '18 and after I did what I suggested it stopped.

my 12 had the pass side mirror moving up and down like that when unlocked, the position sensor was bad. I bought new mirror glass as well, mine being older the tabs were pretty easy to brake when getting the glass out to replace the motor.

I am also pretty sure it is the positioning sensor. The trick as always is to get the dealer to make the fix even when it isn't doing this every time. Thanks.

So update. Dealer took the mirror apart today, pulled the motor off then reassembled. They think the power connection was not fully seated. Of course the truck absolutely refused to do the dance for this new audience even though it was pretty much all the time over the last week. Good thing I had the video to show them. Would be perfectly happy if this actually fixes the problem. Seems OK now but time will tell.

Amazingly I have not had a recurrence since July when the dealer said they found the wiring connector was not fully seated. Given my experience, if I had one that was out of warranty I'd take the assembly apart and check and clean all of the connection points before going after the sensors. Good luck with yours.
