Default Cracked Windshield replacement issue

My windshield just cracked because of the defroster on Sunday, a cold morning. there was a tiny ding that started the whole thing. Just spoke with Ford service and there is a backorder on parts and they have no idea how long it will take to replace "could be a months, could be a year"
I appreciate the setting of low expectations, but that's a little nuts. Anyone else have this issue?

Safelight Autoglass has the part. That's interesting.

Safelite likes to use aftermarket glass. It might not be the same part.

I'm not saying it's a bad thing. I had them replace a windshield on one of my Focus and it looked original and never gave me problems. Just be aware it might not be Ford original glass.

Better to have an aftermarket windshield than a busted OEM one.

See what brand your glass is. Carlite/Carlex is the Ford OEM glass, at least on models a few years back (not on my Mach-E I was surprised to find). Safelite put in a Carlite replacement windshield, i.e. Ford OEM glass, in my 2013 last December. Most insurance companies have a glass program. Mine actually has Safelite administer it. When you make a glass claim, Safelite does everything. If I wanted to use someone else I could, but Safelite would still handle the paperwork for my insurance company.

Considering that what started as a tiny chip that spread out to a full crack along the base of the windshield from original glass, this might not be a problem. I think glass, for the most part, is glass.

Yup, my insurance is paying for everything. Otherwise it would have been a little north of $1,000 US

My wife's 2020 needed replacement due to delamination the week after we bought it. Under warranty, my dealer had Safelite replace it, so I assume Ford is good with that. Dealer said they don't do windshields.

Did they replace it with SoundScreen?

That's a good question. I don't have any idea what that means but, my windshield says that on it.

Does anyone know what that stands for ??
