Consumers Reports and PB
It’s not unusual for the latest model year to show better than previous years in CR ratings. Then as time goes on the ratings generally degrade to average. I suspect it’s statistical error due to a lower sampling for the newest vehicles.
Considering the only major difference between model years is the module software the trucks ship with, you can get your '21 or '22 to function like a '23. It will require you to invest some time/money to do so as the dealer probably won't. This is especially true for Job 1 '21 trucks. I also question what issues people have with the "EV" battery. A chart with no details is kinda useless IMO.
For the very short time I had mine I would say that everything the truck did, it did well. I would not agree at all with the CR report saying the electric motor or the charging system was in any way not working properly. The problem with mine and apparently many others was it's issue of not starting. Along with not starting, Ford had no resolution for the issue. CR did not address this issue in their evaluation. This report is like almost all of their reports. Not very useful and incomplete.
My 23 is a fairly good truck. Lots of little one time things pop up but nothing serious. The truck does everything as it should and is fun to drive with the one exception being the sound system. My second complaint would be the constant beeps and dings warning me to do something or risk death. If you hold your head wrong it thinks you have fallen asleep. If you don't grip the wheel tight enough then you lost control of the truck. If you simply drive in a straight line too long it thinks you have left the vehicle.
There was a segment on this morning's wxyz TV news reporting 1,000's (showing 100's in the pictures) of built 2024 F150's sitting in parking lots waiting for "quality control" repairs. The future CR reports will probably not focus just on the PB F150's quality complaints but across the entire lineup. The years of beating up suppliers for cheaper parts looks like it has finally caught up with them.
I hope you didn't think that Ford is the only auto manufacturer to do this, or the only company to do this. Even reading posts here, everyone wants everything for nothing. If the market is demanding lower costs, something has to go, and typically quality is the most noticable item.

Consumer Reports is not a reliable source when addressing automotive issues. Their ratings rely on significant input from surveys sent out to their own members. So the data is skewed to only CR members.
Look to Edmunds, Motor Trend or Car and Driver for accurate data. Auto Trader is a relative newcomer but has some good base info as well.

This is just being used to increase profits.
And ya, the quality shows in these trucks! ( the poor quality)
