Default Center console lid

Just got my Lariat Sport with bucket seats and center console. To my dismay, lifting the console lid open, it doesn't have a detent to keep it open. The lid just floats on down. Very annoying when trying to reach into the storage area for something, and the lid drops. Anyone else with this, or is this just what somebody thought would be a good design feature?

yeh I got the work surface in my XLT and on a level surface it will just barely stay open if I open it all the way.
Still sometimes... maybe after I spill a Pepsi or 2 into the hinges it'll get better...hmm maybe some locktite...but not sure how it actually works...
I think there's another thread on this too.

Mine stays open just fine, even with a little rake in the truck. I have the work surface for what it's worth.

I noticed this as well (non-work surface). It's more curious than frustrating since I'm not in the console regularly, but from day one I've not been able to figure out why the non-work surface console lids have that massive protrusion on the bottom. My conclusion was that it was the 2-3" of [seemingly] useless plastic material on the underside of the lid that is simply weighing it down.

I see that and think of the wasted storage space and want to figure out how to remove and create storage there. But if the lid already has issues staying open I can only imagine how much more it will f I add weight to the lid. I guess I’ll have to figure out how to replace the springs with heavier ones or something.

Well that is a real bummer. The one on my 2019 XLT will pop open as soon as you release the latch. Looks like we have defect Number 1 in the next generation Ford.
