Default A/C Recirculation

2021 f150 4x4 5.0 lariat........

Riding with a/c on the past few days set anywhere from 68-70 degrees....Outside temps are anywhere from 45-65 degrees.....The a/c is set to blow out of the dash, not the defrost, and not the feet....After a few minutes the recirculation setting will turn off by itself. Is this a setting in the trucks program that does this?

Again - I am not running the defrost of foot vents, strictly dash vents....

I’m wondering if this has to do with outside ambient air temps. Today it has been 70°-73° and recirc stays on the entire time.

Humidity sensor controlling it I believe. It's done the same thing since at least 2016 based on my own experience of having recirc mode enable/disable.

I thought my car was acting funny. I guess this is a Ford thing? My other cars don't do this. It auto shuts off after a few minutes. On MAX AC is stays on.

Long time Ford peculiarity. Many Ford vehicles are designed with recirc-override that is non-defeatable by owner. Been this way for decades.

That's not to say it can't be changed in system settings or with Fortran, I just know this has been an issue for a long time now.

When Ford owned Mazda they did it to the co-designed cars also.

My 2018 did it as weel as my 2021. It is programmed into the system. I push the recirc button again if it I still want it on.

My ‘21 XLT 302a is doing this also, very annoying!

I have had a 2015, 2017, 2018 and 2019 and never had this issue of the recirculation turning off before.

From the owners manual...

My 2017 XLT does this. If you put on recirc and then gradually move the temp warmer, it will kick off the recirc at some point as well.

Strange. Why can’t this just be like the old days where there wasn’t all this override non-sense.

Just like anything else, Ford wants to do all the thinking for us.....

Better idea:
This recirculation feature should detect foul odors from the outside and automatically turn itself on....
