Default Bed mounted switch for tailgate

Has anyone added a switch inside the bed to actuate the tailgate? I would like to add one but am unsure how to wire. I already have a switch I bought for my 2015 taurus a couple of years ago. I find trying to reach the switch in the tailgate handle cumbersome when the gate is down. It would be so much easier if there was a switch located next to the light switch.

Thanks in advance.

I understand. It would be a matter of removing the panel, locating the correct wires, and disconnecting the button on the tailgate. I bet you could have it done in 3 hours.

I would like to leave the switch in the tailgate functional and add a switch next to the light switch in the bed. Not sure if the tailgate switch is wired parallel or in series with the cab switch. I'm also wondering if the plug under the bed you have to disconnect when removing the tailgate would be the place to tie in.

What year is your truck? If it is the newer generation that lifts itself, you only need to slightly lift the gate and the motor takes over for you - no need to reach under for the switch. I usually just bump it with my knee and it shuts on its own...

Really? Interesting. I didn't know that. I just use the key fob to raise it back up.

Mine is hit or miss on lifting it. It ticks me off.

It's a 22 Lariat Supercrew. I didn't know you could bump your knee to close. Ill try that. Really just want to add a switch tho. More of a convenience factor.

why not just use the remote to close the tailgate?

clicking the tailgate symbol/button on the remote 2x will open the tailgate - repeat the same double tap and the tailgate will shut.
additionally there is a button on the dash (near the headlight switch) that opens and closes the tailgate.

I may not have my keyfob with me. It might be in the house. I tried the knee thing and it does work but If my hands are full it's possible I could lose my balance. I'm not a young'n anymore. I just want to know how to wire a new switch in my bed next to the bed light switch. I have a switch already to go I just need to mount and wire.
