Yup I think I’m going to bump mine up to something above 80%….
As soon as I figure out what I need to do and how to do it.

Based on what I see on this forum, factory 80% really does not extend battery life, but kills it faster/makes owner life miserable.
Do you know how to do this in forscan or a topic that has been discussed in the past? thanks

Ford's (questionable) design decision to limit battery SOC to 80% has been discussed in great detail on this forum; personally I feel very strongly against it - while it may provide minuscule fuel economy gains, the combination of that limit with the overall very poor electrical power consumption management (try to measure how many amps the truck continues to suck out of the battery after you shut it down, locked and put the key into RFID-blocker box for at least 15 min!),
Changing the SOC limit in Forscan is very easy, just follow the guide (regardless of battery issues, I find OBDE adapter + forscan license are a good investment).

Update, bumped SOC to 95% through forscan, took a 32 km drive, SOC was 46% before the drive. much happier with where things are now. Ignore the health 100%, that must be bs from my battery tester. Will do more testing to get a rough number for ah/day-parked.

The 80% SOC does under charge the battery.. it also probably reduces work on the alternator, preserving it longer as well. You have to raise the voltage longer and higher to get 95% SOC. I wonder if ford has settled on 80% to preserve electronics on the truck.

I am topping mine off once in a while with a charger…

Ford could have set 80% SOC for other purposes.. than just the battery

It was done to eke out an additional 0.01 mpg on the EPA drive cycle for CAFE ratings. It has zero to do with battery life, alternator, or electronics.

I have also been fully charging my battery a few times a year; I typically drive about 50% short trips and 50% longer trips - 42 miles one way to my rural property - so my battery does get the opportunity to charge to 80%. I really should bite the bullet and pick up Forscan. There are several things I would like to do with it besides changing the SOC target.
