Default Battery health concern, 70 ah on a full size pickup??

I’ve seen multiple threads on upgrade battery/deep sleep mode combat etc, my truck has being fine, it’ll sometimes say “remote features disabled to preserve battery” if it’s been parked for 3+ days or after frequent short trips. I thought its doing its thing and didn’t bother. I just replaced battery on wife’s mini today as it’s being parked several month at a time throughout covid and thought I give ford’s battery a Health test. It’s being almost a year 21000kms and health is at 47%? And it’s a 70ah battery (wife’s mini has an 80ah one, lol)
my old dodge had 50%+ health at year 8. In fact I never had to replace her battery for the 10 years I’ve had her.
also the battery tray in ford seems much larger than the battery, what’s the biggest size I can upgrade to when the time comes?

I just put a WalMart H8 in my '22 5.0, so know it will fit. My OEM H6 was acting wonky, and I believe it was either a bad battery from the factory, or it was damaged when the truck sat for months waiting for chips. The H8 has solved all my battery concerns. You will need to either cut the H6 battery blanket to allow it to (mostly) fit around the H8 or source an H8 battery blanket.

you brought up a very good point, my truck was build in May, 2022. I picked her up March, 2023 with 40km on the clock, so she’s been sitting for about 10 month without much action, I don’t think dealer will battery tender anything sitting on their lot. That’s probably why, it was discharged too deep while sitting. I’d never find out though as I didn’t measure when picking her up. But I’ll go with an H8 once this one is tossed.

I just replaced my battery with a Walmart H7. Battery blanket fit snug...but fit. I did have to fold the strap down into the slot where the handles fold down into the top of the battery...in order to get the bolt to thread down into the strap clamp.
Welcome lights now work...dome light now works...etc. My truck is 2 1/2 years old with 34K on the clock.

My truck would not get the OTA updates with the original battery. After replacing the battery I now have the latest updates.

I notice the health score on mine as low too when charge is lower but it bumps back up once charged. Have you checked again after a full charge. Your gauge does show battery still good just in need of charge.

Here is the test from my factory battery. This was after driving for about 30-45 minutes. My auto start/stop has not been working recently and I've also been getting the battery saver mode.

I put in an H8 battery and ordered a battery blanket for it from Ford. They are on national back order right now so who knows when it will arrive.
I also reset the BMS and changed the SOC from 80% to 85%, but may bump it up to 90% after reading a few different articles. I did not find a way to change the battery size in Forscan though?

H8, Forscan 80 -> 99%, and the truck still unlocked the doors and started the engine on first try after 2+ weeks sitting on the driveway in winter...

I'm curious, why 99%?

eh, I gradually went 80 -> 90 -> 95 -> 99, as I am not sure I can set to 100%.
Based on what I see on this forum, factory 80% really does not extend battery life, but kills it faster/makes owner life miserable.

Went to ski today, 300km round trip. SOC 80% explained it. Why in the world would factory set it to 80%? Please educate me.
for agm & lead acid batteries it’s good to charge them to 100%, lithium batteries are better to be stored with ~40% SOC. I’ve got 2 200ah lead acid for me camper and always kept them topped off for storage, also got a lithium battery for the boat trolling motor, always charge them right before next outing. If ford worries about over charging I think 90-95% would be a good number to run. Seriously is there a reason behind SOC 80%?
