Default Auto lights

So I have a F150 Powerboost XLT. I have had this for almost 2 weeks and I have about 900 miles on it. I love the truck. Nice power. Nice fuel mileage. But this morning my auto lights seemed to have a mind of their own. I drive about 17 miles to work each day. 10 miles are country roads were the high beams kicked on and worked fine, but when I got into the city driving my lights kept flashing everyone. I have not experienced this before. One road I drive down has trees in the middle and when the lights from an on coming car would go behind the tree, my brights would kick on for a split second and as soon as the car came out from behind the tree the lights would go to dims. My experience the last 2 weeks has been that my bright lights never turn on when I am in town but this morning is was really bad with them kicking on and off. Any ideas as to why this could be happing?

Thanks

That's why I never activate auto dims. I rarely use brights, anyway. I haven't done any extended night driving out in the boonies since I bought this truck. I've had autodim lights on my last 4 trucks and never used that "feature". I'm plenty capable of turning them on and off if required.

So...you are saying they are...doing what they are supposed to do..e.g. dimming when other vehicles (light sources tripping the sensor) approach?

I dislike this feature on my truck (and other cars that have it) so I don't use it. Hell, the DIM lights on these trucks blind the crap out of everyone coming towards you, to the point they flash their brights at you anyway.

Yeah not entirely clear on your issue. The truck is supposed to activate brights and deactivate as bajaman said. Only difference I notice about the system in my '21 compared to my '19 is that it is more likely to turn on the brights, which seems to be what you are experiencing. That is an improvement in my book. My '19 so rarely actually turned on the brights in situations where it could. The '21 runs them as much as possible as long as other drivers won't be impacted. It will definitely "flash" a bit more in situations like you describe, but those situations in my experience have been rare anyway. In all I like it.

Not so much an issue just something weird that happened this morning on my drive into work. Once I get in town the brights usually stay off. They almost never turn on but this morning they kept turning on for a split second and then off. Even in-between street lights they would pop on and then shut right back off. My 2018 did not have this feature so I am not 100% what to expect. In my 2018 I almost never drove with the brights on because I would always forget to dim them. Just the truck flashed a few people today and I don't want it to be a cop next time.....lol

When is the last time you washed the windshield? If the camera is obstructed the auto function might not work correctly.

I usually wash it everytime I put gas in it. So would have been Monday.

Yeah I was going to ask if you maybe tinted your windshield, something that may make the trigger a bit more sensitive. But since the truck was only two weeks old I thought the odds of that were low.

On my 2019, the auto hi beams dim from most street lighting.
32 mph is when it automatically goes to hi beam.
27 mph is where it auto dims.
I rarely use the auto high on the country roads I drive. I want the hi beams on even when driving slow at night due to deer.
