Default Auto Climate Control

Ok, I'm likely having another senior moment, I can't figure out the "auto" part. I have dual zone and I get that and understand the temperature settings. What I don't get is the auto button. All it seems to do is adjust the fan not turn the auto on or off. Is the system always on auto unless I override it using the other hvac buttons? If so, what's the point of the fan speeds on the auto button. Do I leave the button so nothing is lit up and then the fan will adjust from low to high on its own? Just doesn't make sense to me...

All I want to do is set the temp and forget it. Letting the fan do its thing as necessary.

Pushing the auto button allows you to control the max speed of the fan in auto mode. I.e., if you don’t want the fan blasting when you first start it or if you’re on the phone, it’s nice to be able to lower the max speed so it’s not so loud. It doesn’t affect the temperature, just how fast the fan blows trying to get to the temperature. Running it manually with the fan buttons is different. At least this is how it works in the Expedition. I assume it’s the same.
