Looking to see if anyone has used the oem flares from the previous gen or if they would even fit?

 

I was looking at a few aftermarket brands and found out ford did away with them due to sensors in the fenders for lane assist i believe and that by installing the if you have that feature it will be disabled. As for if the 15+ will fit probably not since I think the 21 fenders are a new design.

 

I'd be interested in knowing if the addition of OEM accessory Part No: VML3Z-16268-D fender flares will effect lane assist or any other electronic driving features or BC? These appear to resemble the same flare which was factory installed on my '17 Platinum which had lane assist and other features which were unaffected by them.
If these OEM accessories effect operations of select electronic features one would think Ford would have notated it in the description and/or product installation instructions to avoid any product liabilities!
I ordered a set but haven't installed yet so I'm hopeful they have zero effect on any electronic functions. If anyone has installed and has first hand knowledge I'd be extremely interested in hearing what your results were?

That would be awesome if they work. Thats one thing i wish my truck had. Wonder if a recalibration or something would be needed if it does interfere with the sensors. But like you said the product doesn't say it excludes lane assist trucks.

 

Where are these sensors that may be affected? The only technology I am aware of are the bumper sensors (front and back), taillight sensors, mirror cameras, and the dashcam behind the mirror. I've looked over my brand new '21 and don't see anything around the fenders. I think the fenders look completely unfinished without and would love to at least install these OEM flares.

 

I agree! Sensors appear to be located in the same areas on my '17 Platinum with lane assist so I don't think there is any going to be any effect on operations. Planning to install within a few weeks and will have some feedback afterwards.

 

Agreed and can’t wait to see how these look. I was originally thinking buying the oem flares for the previous gen, as the well diameter looks like it would be a direct fit. Are you guys going to paint them?

 

If these work, I will definitely get mine painted (Agate Black). My 2017 had what I'd call more of a fender trim that was color matched (Ingot Silver) and they really added a finished look. They were stock on the 2017 and no idea why they chose to not to at least make them an option on the current model.

 

I'm not going to paint the OEM flares as they have a textured black finish and fit with my appearance concept. "Bushwhacker" who evidently supplies the OEM version offers these in a "Smooth matte black finish that can easily be painted". They also offer these painted to match up to '20 model year but not for '21 F-150 yet. Maybe they will offer them painted in the future if they have enough response to make it worthwhile.

 

Saw a video the other day on a Shelby super snake truck and it had what look to be the oem flares from 15-20.
