Any improvements to 10 Speed Transmission Since 2021
Am considering trading a 2021 F150 for a new 2025 or 2026 F150 and wondering if there have been any improvements to the 10 Speed Transmissions affecting longevity since 2021.
Have not had any issues with the 2021 but if the new 10 Speed Transmissions were substantially better I would be trading. My brothers 2018 F150 transmission failed at just
over 60,000 but he had extended warranty to cover the Ford rebuild but was without the F150 for about 3 months.

Typically, there are improvements to these year over year. Though I'm not specifically sure what those may be. When it comes to the transmissions, I think its luck of the draw. I've had 5 vehicles with the 10 speed and I've never had a problem with them. Two friends of mine have F-150's with a lot of miles on them and they don't have issues. Specifically, a 2017 F-150 XLT 2WD with the 2.7L EcoBoost with 143,000 miles on it and a 2020 F-150 Lariat 501A FX4 with the 5.0L V8 and 148,000 miles on it.
The cdf drum bushing was updated with a lip so it can no longer slip out of place. This was implemented in fall of 2022.
There are other improvements too, which I do not remember.
The cdf drum problem was likely the biggest issue with the 10r80.

I think that update to the drum was February of 2023. My 23 was built in November so it still has the old drum.
I’ve never heard February of 2023 mentioned before.
There is a popular transmission shop that puts out repair videos. He's on quite a bit. He was showing the bushing, the before and after drums, and he's the one that said "If you have a 23 built before February of 23 you still have the old drum, if built in the fall you most likely still have the faulty drum. I'm just going on what he stated. If built after that your good to go. You might be right. And I hope your right.

I’d think your truck is safe, honestly.
I know im no expert, but this is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone say February ‘23.

I think you guys might be talking about 2 separate known 10R80 issues. There is a metal bushing that slips out of place. I believe this fix was made late 2022. The separate issue is the CDF drum the guy in the video refers to as the trash can. Original model was a bare aluminum drum which over time developed ridges impacting the engagement and release of clutch packs. This was updated with a new dark grey anodized aluminum drum in early 2023 which is supposed to be stronger so the ridge wear doesn’t happen.
