Default Another Oil Filter Drain Hack

After complaining about the mess that removing the horizontal oil filter makes on my Ecoboost (and my floor), I decided to try something better than the stock drip trough. I took a piece of aluminum flashing 12 x 15", folded the long edges over, cut a shallow scoop in one end, and rolled it into a half-pipe. This is able to slide under the oil filter mount by about an inch, and extends forward of the frame by a couple of inches. The result was zero oil anywhere except in my drain pan. I also used my new flashing drain as a route to remove the old filter, and the oil dripping out of that.

It appalls me that in 2024 Ford can't figure out how to locate the oil filter so it doesn't make a hazmat spill every time.

Genius idea. It's like the Engineers at Ford want to create havoc with such a normal and required maintenance job.

More angle and length would work. But it still means the factory drain trough gets oiled every time the filter is changed, and then has to be cleaned.

This is my solution, similar to OP but still partly utilize the factory catch pan. yes the pan gets dirty but some shop paper towel will do.
my old ram hemi motor, the filter is directly above passender side half shaft, I cut a coke bottle in half to catch the filter and oil, and I've seen worse positions of filters from other car brand.
