Android Auto Google Maps vs. Built in Nav
Any mapping program that you download is already approx. one year old....Give or take!
Any new street in all cities/towns /county & state would have to be accepted on their official plan of that area to be a designated street etc.
Therefore each & every program is months & months old & depends when said streets are designated!!
Having said above I have found Google Maps to be pretty much up to date (if any are) but will be not perfect if the street you are looking for is less than a year old....
It wouldn't be the first time (as a trucker) that I've headed into a industrial subdivision onto a street that is in the map program but is much longer now (extended) & the factory i was looking for is around a year plus there already?? Good Luck....

I figure having both as options I'm putting myself in the best position possible. You know I will be putting both services against each other in a battle of the navigators. It will be the greatest battle since Vancouver vs. New York circa 1994.
I always used google maps with my phone on my pant leg because sync3 nav sucked ***, so I am new to both android auto wireless projection and Sync4 nav. So I know how awesome google is at predicting arrival time based on flow of traffic. That will be a real test for the Sync4 nav, if it uses speed limits it will be very bad again and I probably will only use it in a pinch for that reason alone. Otherwise the integration so far is great! I just need more solo time in the truck to experiment, without family.
Yeah I was gonna say, my 2019 notifies me of alternate routes due to traffic/construction on the few instances I used it over something on my phone. The '21 is even better from what I understand, including more up to date maps automatically. I still prefer phone maps generally, but the '21 may change that, especially with the navigation on the gauge cluster.
How is it doing on ETA? Google is so good and I constantly try to beat it and just cannot outsmart it. If the Sync ETA is as accurate as google that is a huge bonus and I may use it occasionally
I want to say that from someone who's come from Toyota to Ford, Sync 4's Nav I think is actually really great. Because of the UI integration alone, I have found myself using it more often than not. That being said, Google Maps is just amazing and really hard to beat. Sometimes it's just easier to use your phone to find something and then use carplay. Also, Sync 4's real time weather radar is a fantastic feature. I feel like it's kinda under marketed. I used it a lot when I had my road trip to CO from TX and back.
I think both platforms have their place...like a socket wrench and a screwdriver.

1. Small - gauge row along top between 2nd and 3rd gauge
2. Large - dead center between the tach and speedo
Both Sync nav and Google nav (if using android auto, don't know about carplay) will show version 1 for "eventual next turn" along centered along the top row. Very nice!
Sync nav will also show large version 2 of your immediate next turn as you approach as a pop up over whatever you have displayed currently. So even if you have Fuel Economy, or Trip 1, or whatever displayed, the immediate approaching turn will pop up for a few seconds. Its pretty cool especially if you have music or something other than nav displayed on the main Sync.
Found one difference today:
If your destination is a business that is part of a giant shopping center, Google has always done a great job of taking you all the way into and through the parking lot to the physical location of THAT business.
I used the Sync nav today just because it was easy, and it routed me to the exact address but ON the major thoroughfare. The business is set way back in a huge parking lot of a massive shopping center. The actual places to turn in are what any sane person would use, but the Sync nav wanted me to go up and make a uturn to land at the business RIGHT on the big surface street, which is very silly.
