Default Advice on ordering new

Hey guys,

I've never bought a new vehicle from a dealership. I think I will be placing an order soon. Looking for any advice about
  • Ordering from Ford or buying a brand new vehicle in general.
  • Extras, addons, discounts I should be trying to leverage
  • Rookie mistakes that people make (which I would like to avoid)
FYI I live in Ontario, Canada
The truck I am considering will be a 2023 F150 RC w/ 2.7 ecoboost and 4wd.

Thanks for any sage advice you can lend.

Find a dealership that will discount you to at least invoice if not below, AND give you price protection (you will probably need to place a non-refundable deposit). Might also be good to know how financing/rates will work if you go that route, they may offer to float your rate between order and delivery date and let you take the lower rate, however I think any special financing or rebates are going to depend on when you actually take delivery?
Some of your options will potentially delay the completion/delivery of your order - a good dealership can tell you what those items are and then at least you can decide if they're worth delay/cancellation.
If you place a refundable deposit, be sure you get in writing EXACTLY what that is providing you in terms of security, and don't assume you get any additional protections if they aren't listed.

Best advice I can give: Unless you are paying cash, don't buy a vehicle right now. Not only are prices out of line, but interest rates stink, even for great credit. I've bought or leased 13 new vehicles in the past 17 years, so I'm certainly not afraid to buy when the numbers are in your favor. Right now, they are NOT.

The best deal will be from dealer inventory.

Never put down a deposit on an order. Ford doesn't require a deposit, if the dealer requires a deposit, find another dealer.

Shop for the best dealer. I have over 50 ford dealers within 100 miles of me. The best dealer I have found is 15 miles from me. No MSRP markup or BS mandatory dealer installed options. MSRP + TTL and a doc fee. The doc fee is BS, but every single dealer around here charges one.

There is no legitimate reason to be pressured into signing anything on the spot. High pressure dealers use all kinds of tactics to get your signature on a sales agreement. Walk if your dealer puts pressure on you.

Go online and look at reviews for the dealership you are considering.

Good luck.

Lots of people here buy online from Granger Ford in Iowa. I just got home from picking mine up on Wednesday and driving back to NY last night. Ordered online and had Granger submit it to Ford. Gave a $1000 credit card deposit, non refundable. Got 3% UNDER INVOICE and $1000 instant rebate at signing. 0% for 36 months. Saved around $9k (net savings because of travel) on the price plus whatever I'll save when I register it for taxes because of the lower price. Couldn't have been easier.

Add me to the order from Grainger crowd. Very happy with the 3% below invoice and they were easy to deal with.
No matter what you do, I’d get the extended range fuel tank. Well worth it
