Default Add on cup holders for jump seat

I much prefer the jump seat over a console, except for the cup holder situation. I wanted more, and I wanted to site further forward and lower so my drinks weren't in the way of my arm rest. I stole the idea from Blinc over on the 2014 page, to add a cupholder that slides in where the headrest used to be.

I'm so glad I installed this - waaaay better than the stock cup holder! In a much more comfortable location for me.
I used
this cupholder ($20) this cupholder ($20)
.
I cut off the bottom piece with a cut off wheel. I used 1/2" round stock and cut some threading on the end - hoping it would slide in and out easier and less likely to damage the headrest mechanism than all-thread. I used steel but should have used aluminum - running the die by hand was a bear on steel!
It turned out pretty well, but seemed to vibrate quite a bit. Probably mostly in my head, but seems like it vibrated enough to shake the carbonation out of my drinks. I added some rubber grommets between nuts and washers, and some
rubber coasters rubber coasters
hoping to dampen the vibration - might just be placebo effect but I think it helped!

One thing I wish us console owners could have that six seater owners have is the 12v outlet next to the USB A/C outlets. This is where the wireless charger goes on higher trim models.

No bad but like the previous post that inspired you, I wonder how is this better than just using the factory cup holders that come out of the lower compartment of the jump seat and end up close to the floor?

Yeah you can typically get a lot more amps/wattage out of a 12V outlet too.

For me this location is just more comfortable. Easier to reach without having to lean forward and reach down to the floor. And it feels like a really natural place to reach to. Maybe cause my '06 had the cupholder in a similar location on the dash under the radio?

Also my truck did not come with the factory holder in the lower compartment, would've cost me $50 to buy one. Granted I probably spent almost that much to build my own, but I'd rather spend an hour on a fun DIY project than give more money to Ford.

I pulled the head rest out of the jump seat because it was in the way of stuff down there I wanted to reach. not knowing how the headrest is made I wonder if cup holders could be formed into the back of the factory headrest.

Clever idea! I looked into ordering the same cup holder from Amazon you linked in your post.
surprisingly, there were several video reviews that all complaining of the same thing … the glue holding it together had failed.
have you seen any signs of that yet?

No, no signs of peeling on mine, seems like everything is well adhered. That said, I wonder if that failure is due to heat - I live in Alaska so even in the summer it doesn't get too hot in my truck.

Ford auxiliary cup holder for F-150 bench seat that clips in to bottom console opening. I couldn't find it on the Ford accessory website anymore. I got this one on ebay.
