5.0 experiences?
How is everyone's 5.0 holding up? Looking into a 23 f150 5.0 3.73. Just want a solid nice power train. Do zero towing but a good amount of hauling 1,1.5k of weight a couple times of a month. Currently drive a 17 3.5 which I like but I miss the 5.0 sound. Any real negative experiences? Oil consumption, cam phasers?
Closing in on 29500 miles with another 4k to come in next six weeks, mostly towing about 5klbs. I'm loving it. If you get the towing package, it automatically comes with 3.73 which I would prefer over the 3.31 that I have. Only advantage of the 3.5 is its torque and the hybrid with the choice of 2.4 or 7.3KW power options.
Pay close attention to the payload door sticker if that weight is added to the truck not a trailer.

I had a 2020 5.0 but lease was up and went with the 3.5 for towing my camper. The 5.0 is a great motor didn’t have any problems with it.I live in Michigan which is a pretty flat state and the only problem I really didn’t like with the 5.0 was that where I go it is a lot of stop and go traffic.I end up hitting so many stop lights and it just dosent have the low end torque to get the truck and camper loaded down and moving. It sounds great I love the sound of a v8 but when I got the 3.5 it was a big difference towing. The 5.0 is a great motor though especially with a whipper on it lol.
I've got a 2021 F150 Supercab 4x4 long bed with the 5.0. I love it! It's been flawless. No oil consumption. I am at 78,000 and some change as I drive from Texas to the East Coast multiple times a year and my daily commute is 98 miles round trip, I tow a boat occasionally. And I camp a lot with a topper on the back. I just change the oil, oil filter and air filter and she purrs along at 20 mpg. I still have tread on the original tires but I am about to change those. I've gone out to Big Bend Ranch State Park in West Texas and gone 4x4 in the back country for a week and the 4x4 system works great off road and on the boat ramp. And while commuting on I-30 back and forth from Dallas and Fort Worth, not many people can out run me or accelerate faster than me when needed. The engine and power train are awesome and the truck has been what I wanted and hoped for. It's even been a breeze doing all the maintainence myself too. I will change spark plugs and change the trans oil and filter soon.

I have not noticed Cylinder Deactivation. I have heard driving in Sport modes possible turns it off. My understanding cylinder deactivation requires very specific conditions and from what I read I don't meet that much driving...like 40 mph on a flat road or 55 mph on f;lat highway...and I always seem to be above 70 mph on the highway.
I am not worried about the Oil Pump Belt. From what I have read it is very robustly designed. I have friends with Audi's and they have all sorts of belts including belt driven cam shafts and they last and last. We are not talking a regular serpentine belt here which is what I think most of the worry or bias against comes from.
Don't underestimate the design and openness of the 5.0. Everything is very accessible. It's not overly complicated when it comes to the basic maintainance of the motor.

It really depends on your use case, as someone mentioned if pulling a heavy trailer with frequent stop & go, the 5.0 might feel slopy (don't have that low end torque).
For my use case, a very light fishing boat (1500 lbs combined), I believe it yields better fuel economy compared to turbos. I also have 3.31 gear which works great in my case as I'm not towing heavy.
The motor only has 30,000km on it so I don't expect it to have any issue, but yes, there isn't any major issues heard for 21+ coyotes. I'm not concerned about cylinder deactivation, has that in my old hemi (MDS) doesn't give any trouble, the belt driven oil pump... only time will tell but that's not something new.
