2025, which engine?
Going to pick up a new STX FX4 2.7 with 3:55 gears tomorrow for my youngest son.
I am currently driving an ‘18 5.0
My older son has a ‘22 Lariat 3.5 Ecoboost.
( they work very hard for it, I only provide advice, and an Xplan pin)
With that said I love the sound my 5.0 makes, and tuned on E85 with 3:73’s 7000RPM shifts there is nothing comparable.
But…. Those Ecoboost’s
Torque right off the line, they don’t need the 3:73’s unless you want the 9.75” rear with the 2.7 to get a little more payload. 3:55’s are the sweet spot.
The Ecoboost’s just sound horrible, the best sound possible is the factory dual exhaust with a resonator delete.
But, you can add around 100 hp and 100 ft/lbs with just a tune, can’t do that with my 5.0
They are all susceptible to oil contamination issues so stay on top of your maintenance and enjoy.
BTW the discounts on the 2.7 to 5.0 make it around a $4600 swing for ‘25

I owned a 2023 Tremor 5.0 (sold back to dealer due to A/C issue that Ford could not resolve) and liked the 5.0 very much (I also own a 2015 Mustang GT 5.0). While that truck was in the shop, for about 10 days, I had a XLT, 2WD 2.7 truck, as a loaner and will admit I liked the engine very much. Quiet, smooth power.....with the only negative part being "quiet". I just love the sound of a good V8 engine. That being said, if someone offered me a 2.7 truck to drive, I would have no issue taking it. The engine is small but is over-built for what it is and I think even though it has less power, I would take it over a 3.5 EB if I was intending to keep the truck for a long time. You would eventually replace turbos, but I think the engine internals are built for the long haul.

That's the other thing about this specific electric car... Hyundai's warranty is 5/60k bumper-to-bumper and 10/100k powertrain (including battery, charging infrastructure, etc). 10/100k on the expensive stuff is pretty big. If you're someone that drives 5-30 miles to work and back every day and don't need to tow/travel a lot, it's really idiot proof. The cost to own is miniscule vs. (apples to oranges here) my V8 F150 in terms of fuel cost, maintenance, etc.

With abuse, no a turbo would not last. With care they absolutely can last 20 years.
Really? You've never seen an original turbo on a 20 year old vehicle? I have. I didn't count each occasion but I bet its been dozens of times in my life.

I'll amend that... I've never personally seen a turbocharger on a *performance engine, that has been daily driven (15k per year), last 20 years (that would be 300,000 miles). OTR trucks? sure, but that's not apples to apples.
Is it possible? Sure... there are always exceptions to rules. But if someone comes on here (like the OP) asking what engine is the most reliable long term, you give advice based on averages, not exceptions.
I’m a little late to the discussion but I just traded my 2018 F150 with the 5.0 for an F250 Powerstroke. I happen to be old school and love the sound of the V8 coyote motor. Never had a v6 but a couple buddies did and I could never get past the sound difference between the V6 and the 5.0! My 5.0 burned oil from the get go until I had a recall service done. It took about 6 months but it ended up not using any oil between oil changes and I towed a camper for most of those miles. Absolutely would go another 5.0 if back to the F150. Good luck with your choice as all are good options depending on needs.
If you haven’t owned or even driven the 2.7, no need to spread misinformation. The 5.0 is a just about equally complex engine, minus two turbos.
Either are excellent choices, but no need to keep outdated information churning on the internet for no reason.
