Talked about changing the fluid out at less that 5k miles?
Is this legit? Or just a way to sell me some royal purple lube for 100 bucks?
No harm in changing fluid early, but I'd just stick with what the factory says is needed, not necessarily a royal purple or other brand. That said, Amsoil would be my choice.
LOL I saw that too...popped up on my feed...I was like dang....
BUT, if you were to change it at say 5K, and something did happen to the rearend, could Ford say "you did something wrong, and you shouldn't have touched it before XX miles?"
I did on my Ram when I changed covers, but it still looked good at 20K
My factory gear oil looked pretty dirty at 1308 miles when I installed a limited slip. Changing the gear oil this early is absolutely not necessary, but gear oil is cheap and clean fluids never hurt. The rear gear oil on my wife's 2018 Nissan looked brand new after 38K, it was a light amber color and very translucent; my gear oil was dark and opaque at 1308 miles.

Wouldn't hurt, but not necessary.
For instance, Dana Spicer used to recommend initial 5,000 mile oil changes in new or rebuilt heavy haul axles too (and these are axles that spend most of their time loaded almost to capacity, pulling 100,000+ lbs of weight), but even that changed when they started filling them with modern synthetics. Now there's no longer any initial short drain interval.
