It makes perfect sense to the dealer who won't risk your trade-in because of an ongoing recall with no apparent fix in the very near future before said dealer is assured the fix is permanent & of course he can sell your truck for the said dollars that he would expect !!
IT ALSO TELLS THE SELLER THAT THEY ARE NOT SURE WHERE THIS WILL END & TO WHAT SATISFACTION !!

With respect to the second part, "they" is the used car sales staff, possibly the manager. While Ford hasn't announced the final fix and therefore nobody knows, I would not consider the used car sales staff to be an authoritative source of anything.

The solution that Ford came up with for the fuel leak recall on the Bronco Sport and Escapes does not inspire any confidence that whatever solution they define for this rear axle is going to be satisfactory:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news...-wo-rcna147328

It is also hard to believe that the NHTSA has approved Ford's solution for the fuel leak recall.

I must agree with that on all counts.

We can only hope that the eventual TBD permanent remedy for our axle situation is better (and timely forthcoming).

Diminished value and lack of desire leaves anyone stuck with a vehicle they cannot reasonably sell. Therefore Ford should buy them back and keep them at their cost until the issue is resolve. I am sure many owners want to upgrade to another Ford but cannot due to this issue. Ford quality control has crashed and this will force many to move to to other brands. I am definitely moving on when this fix is done. I as many others have had issues with other years in the past, but this is the first time we are pressed to get rid of the affected model easily without losing our pants. These model prices increased and had very lower discounts, so this hurts more, I could have bought a Lighting discounted at most the same price and could offload now, but the affected models are going to cost owners.

Is Ford still using this axle on new trucks? I'm looking at a 2024 F150 STX with V8 and max tow (53T). Should I be concerned?

Note that in 2024, "Max Tow" is an optional axle upgrade on top of the 53T package; unless you order 53T plus Axle Upgrade Code XL7 (for 5.0 V8) you will not get "Max Tow".

Having said that, AFAIK Ford has not explicitly stated the 2024 is the same 3/4-float axle as previous years so we don't really know exactly what the design details are for 3.73:1 XL7 for the 5.0 (or 3.55:1 XL5 for 3.5L Ecoboost).

IMO it's 'interesting' that there's no mention whatsoever of the term "Max Tow" or reference to axle codes XL5 / XL7 in the latest 2024 RV and Towing guide; IMO Ford is being suspiciously and inappropriately obscure about exactly what tow ratings one gats for a given drivetrain with only the 53T package vs. 53T + XL5 / XL7.

How could they if they are not permitted to sell trucks with the affected axles under recall. They wont even buy back my 22 5.0 with max tow because they cannot sell it.

Is there any word on what axles are under Power Boost. I know all PB's with 4x4 had the 3.73 rear axle, while 4x2 PB's came with 3.55 rear axles. The Max Tow option was available for the PB's. I declined to option the Max Tow because I wasm't getting enough items to make the extra $1K worth it.

Here's what's in the 2024 Order Guide with some red highlights added by me for a previous post. This the 10/12/23 version; the latest 2/16/24 version is identical regarding this topic but the only copy I have is a less legible scan so attaching this.

You'll note that the "Max Tow" axle upgrade option (whatever that is) is not offered for the PB in 2024.

As in previous years the Order Guide gives ratio data but nothing about axle design / type or ring gear size. I know of no other axle data resource for the 2024 model year.

Make of it what you will.
