Default 2021 key features

I just picked up my new 2021 XLT F150 last week. This past weekend I went surfing and tried to lock my key in the car (and use keyless entry on the door to get in) but I couldn't lock the door because the key was in the truck. The doors automatically unlock when the key is in the truck. Is there a way to lock the key in the truck without it unlocking the doors? Thanks in advance for any help with this.

Do you have the keypad on the door? Press the bottom two buttons simultaneously.

Do the 2021 XLT models include a physical key or intelligent key?
If Intelligent key, you should protect it with foil or something.

My 2016 intelligent key allows the FOB to be locked inside if using the keypad to lock the door.

I created access code for keyless entry system and then can lock door with key staying in the truck by pressing the last 2 keys on keypad simultaneously.

We don't use the keys.. we just threw them inside the truck and use the phone app and key pad.

You can lock the keys in the xlt

I had to call my Brother to come pick me up and get my second fob to get back into my truck. 2nd day I had it and I did not set the keypad.

I took my dog for a walk. I had been messing with the truck and tossed the fob in the cubby and forgot I did that. Jumped out hooked my dog on his leash closed the drivers door and hit the black button on the door handle.

Finish the walk and grab the handle and it did not unlock. Check my pockets and no fob. Oh great I get to retrace my steps on the hour long walk to try to find my fob. Then it hit me I left it in the truck.

After getting the truck home I set the keypad code and stashed the spare door key in a accessible spot outside the truck.

Its actually a nice feature if you plan on leaving your truck somewhere and having someone else pick it up or doing some kind of water sport and not having to leave your keys "on the beach".

You don't have to set a code. There is a factory set code in the BCM that can never be changed, think of it as the master code. You can program additional codes but the factory code will always work.
