Default 2017 Midel Year

I have been reading some articles on the net and just read one that a 2017 isn’t a good year for the F150 3.5 Eco boost turbo. Any thoughts on this and did I make a mistake buying the 2017 model? Thanks.

Youre in the wrong forum for this question (should be in the 15-20 forum) but 2017 is the first year for the Gen2 3.5 and I believe the first year for the 10r80, both with their fair share of issues being the first release year. Ford didnt successfully address the timing issues of Gen1, which had similar issues to the gen2. The gen1 3.5 got better through its 2011-2016 lifespan. A friend of mine has 120k+ on his 2016 3.5 truck and its given him zero issues. I had a 2013 that needed cam phasers/timing chain work around 75k, so its hit or miss. My opinion, 2015/16 3.5 is the best years of the gen1 3.5 and then it picks back up 2022+ (always try to skip the first year of a new gen engine).

All that said, the forum is where most people come to complain. We are only a small percentage of the millions of these engines/trucks on the road, so take what is said here with a grain of salt. It is often overblown.

Sometimes asking question in the newer forum brings out the reasons people moved to the 14 gen F150. Both the good and bad.

The past experience has been only 1 major flaw with the previous ownership of a 16 501a Lariat, 18 502a Lariat and a 19 701a Platinum. That major flaw is concerning the door latches freezing up in the cold climates which ALL 3 previous 13 gen trucks had issues with and Ford HAD no fixes that lasted. When it was seen FORD changed the door design in the 14 Gen F150 it was move on to a 14 Gen truck. Other than the lack of being only held into the truck on days of 31F or lower temps via a seat-belt and a bungee cord holding the door closed the truck worked good and did their job well. Worse days were when the truck door would not open.
