My 2.7L payload package truck has 1869 lbs of payload. I am a big fan of this combo. Just a bummer you are restricted to non STX and Sport packages. Has to be a chrome or base package to get it.
I have a non-payload package 302A Sport and my payload is 1645 lbs.
So you only get 200+ lbs extra and can't have it on STX or Sport? Bummer.
The 2.7L only raises the GVWR from 6600 to 6900lbs.
As mentioned earlier in the thread, a V8 has a 7050lb GVWR. So a V8 truck can be had with 1800lb payload rating like a 2.7L Payload package.
That said, I like my 2.7L payload package truck a lot. I towed a 4 yard load of compost in a dump trailer that scaled at 8,100 lbs. 2.7L did just fine. It wouldn't tow that weight at 65 mph+ on the interstate well but it did just fine at 55 or 60 mph on two lane roads for 30 minutes it took to tow this home. The towing driving mode is awesome when towing this heavy, engine braking helps a lot. Truck did exactly what I need for the handful of times I tow this heavy each year.
300A XLT supercrew, I think mine stickered at 1963 lbs. An oddity was that my sticker is above the "maximum" in the Ford brochure b/c it's so lightly optioned.
